A bit bewildered by the array of bottles available, can someone help me? I'm breastfeeding, but will be expressing when I return to work.

There are soooo many on the market it seems.

I was looking last night and I'm confused as to which ones to get:
PCP free!?!
Strange looking teats!?!
Anti-colic!?!

We've used Avent before, but then all these weird and wonderful looking contraptions have emerged since then.

I need some bottles for expressed bm feeding by Dh, when I return to work.
Can anyone help me choose?

Tommee Tippee closer to nature good if you are mainly breastfeding - seem to use a similar sucking action to bf.

My dd would only drink from these bottles.

Having said that ds is also bf and will drink from any bottle so may be that you can just get the cheapest!

Only prob I found with the closer to nature is that they don't come with lids so you need to send the milk to nursery or CM in a different container.

Oops just reread the OP if the bottles are staying at home anyway it doesn't matter does it

TheNinkynork · 07/12/2008 12:49

The MAM bottles are good for BF babies. (My DS refused every other type) The teat feels silky and they are the "right" sort of plastic. Very easy to clean too as the base unscrews.

So tommy tippee or MAM bottles.

We have used MAM dummies in the past.

Any other thoughts?

I breastfed and had to give dd2 a bottle a day and tried the tomme tippee ones but she just bought all the milk back up.

Tried others as well but the Dr Brown ant colic ones were the only ones that worked in the end

Oh FGS now I've got a choice of 3

You lot aren't helping if you're not agreeing!

Mam bottles have been the best with both DSs. tommee tippee look good but i found them a faff and then if the teat wasnt in properly you got milk everywhere. Mam are also good as you take it apart totally so its so easy to clean. they are also BPA free

storkycake · 08/12/2008 20:02

Righto, I think I will try the Mam ones, thanks for that.

Check out the Born Free bottles - free from dodgey chemicals in the plastic and our 3rd was first one who used them and had no colic etc. Have an extra valve but only fiddly for the first few times. I recommend them.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 08/12/2008 20:11

We started on closer to nature (b/fed baby) then switched to MAM as they are BPA free.

The MAM ones are fabulous, there is an anti-colic vent in them that works really well IME - DD hardly ever brings up wind after using them.

(my Closer to nature's did come with lids though).

hannahlouhoo · 08/12/2008 20:17

I would just try advent if you still have some and then if no good then try another brand?

If hungry then they will take it from anything?

how old will dc be when you return to work? what about introducing an odd bottle now so you know for sure dc will take it?
my ds would never take a bottle from me but will always take one from dp( or who ever has him!)

hth

Don't be afraid of glass bottles from health food shops.

I really like them - and rubber teats, and I feel very wholesome. I also use Avent.

Claire236 · 08/12/2008 20:50

I loved Nuk bottles with ds who was bf.

Jojay · 08/12/2008 20:54

Avent were fine for my breastfed ds1 and 2.

Every baby will be different though, it's trial and error.

Start with whatever you fancy and take it from there.

storkycake · 08/12/2008 23:06

I've used Avent to feed EBM with all of them and had no problems I have to be honest.
I always get new bottles for each child. Might try the Mam ones and get the teeny Avent ones as well. Like you say trial and error.

Baby will be exclusively bf until at least 6 months, when I'll likely go back to work, but I only work 1/7 anyway.

Thanks for all your help
