Breasfeeding after Breast surgery

hello has anyone successfully breastfed after breast reduction surgery? I had to have surgery about 5 years ago to remove lumps etc as have benign breast disease but they also did a reduction. The surgeon at the time said that he had kept the nerve connection to allow for possible future breast feeding but I'd like to know how possible this really is and what problems may occur.

I'm also worried about how this will effect my breast tissue and shape if breast feeding due to the scars etc as the breast gets bigger.
I'd love to give it a go but don't want to give in too early if its a matter of perseverance...

Any guidance would be gratefully appreciated

xx

I had part of my left boob removed due to lumps and have been feeding for over two years, but you just have to wait and see really.

I too had some surgery many years ago and was concerned about breastfeeding. I'm glad to say I'm breastfeeding successfully (My boy's big and strong!) and have had no problems with my scar.

I would recommend you speak with a lactation specialist / breastfeeding councillor so you can devise some strategies in advance.

Good luck!

I had a reduction too and had lots of problems - mainly latching ones due to milk coming through v. slowly and flat nipples as a result of the surgery. It is different for everyone tho - definitely go for it, but realise it may be a lot harder than everybody else and you may have to mix feed. Lots of good stuff about it on www.bfar.org.

Not personal expericance but v. closer friend has a little girl 2 weeks after i had ds. she had a reduction (they were too big i think) at 19, she had no problems and is still feeding at 9 months.

But i suppose you may have to wait and see! good luck
