How much sick is too much sick?!

My ds has always been a happy puker but recently the amount he produces is something else! He's now 14 weeks. Last night he drenched himself, his undersheet and the material under the basket mattress where it must have run down the sides! He's gaining weight fine, developing great and is happy (sometimes being sick seems to make him happier). The HV suggested he was over-feeding (35-40 minutes on first breast, a bit less on second) but it's hard to know when he's had enough as he never takes himself off! I've started reducing the feeds by 10 minutes which sometimes makes it better, but sometimes not.

Does anyone else have a very pukey baby? Is this normal? I do worry.

ds was like this till about 16 weeks. It got worse and worse and then suddenly nothing!!!

Your HV is talking bollocks btw, simply make sure he is kept upright and properly winded (make him sit bolt upright to wind him without provoking vomits).

They do grow out of it. He's gaining weight so don't worry, it will pass

hi there, my ds is also a very sicky baby big shock for me as my bf dd was never i mean never sick!!
it does get better or do we just get used to it?? hmmmmm, anyway as long as the weight gain is fine id say dont worry but id never sugest reducing feeds for a start it may interfear with your milk supply and your ds may well start to feed more frequently to make up for it bf babies know what they are ding as far as how long they feed if he wants that much its because he needs that much though that advice wont make the laundry pile any smaller im forever washing sicky clothes

Unless he is in pain with it (i.e. back arching, screaming during/after feeds, gagging, coughing etc), I wouldn't worry.

Thanks everyone. Seems like I just have a laundry problem then! (And a social problem, seeing as I smell of cheesy sick most of the time!)

Re the HV, she didn't suggest that I cut down on actual feeding time but rather the comfort feeding time - he will quite happily comfort feed in deep sleep so I always have to take him off eventually. In fact both feeds this morning he wasn't that interested in prolonging the feeding and took himself off after about 20 mins, which is rare!

arthymum - agree with everyone else - my experience the same as mothersmilk - ds never ever sick - three times in his whole life but dd pukes all the time - not projectile - which is the answer to your question, thats too much sick but just after every feed and between feeds and generally all the time.

do you have a fast letdown? that could be the cause maybe - and as they get older they get more skilled in dealing with it. Doesnt explain the sick in between though but still.

dd slowed at around 4 months and now shes weaning at 6.5 months will only be a little bit sick after a bf but not at other times and certainly not like the quantities before...

oh and she gained weight like the marshmallow thing in ghostbusters so didnt affect her at all...
