BfN say not to take as it may make baby agitated and wakeful, also that a similar drug seems to 'dramatically reduce' prolactin levels.

Fuck.

oops

can you check all drugs you cant take and get them out the house? i did that when pg with dd and now (three yeears later) if im ill and not thinking straight i dont have to worry as the things i have are safe (but ineffective but thats another story)

hope your dc is unaffected and you get a good nights sleep

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 15:28

I bought them from the shop this morning after reading the back to see if it said they aren't recc'd for breastfeeding mothers.
It doesn't (It does on their website though)

OP posts:
littleducks · 29/11/2008 15:37

it prob says if breastfeeding or pregnant consult your dr on the leaflet, the answer to everything in pharmacy info!

i have yet to fing a decongestant that is allowed when pg/bfing

littleducks · 29/11/2008 15:40

'their answer'
'find'

NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2008 16:13

How old is your LO? One dose is unlikely to make any difference, or cause any problem - the older your baby, the less likely a problem is, I think.

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 16:17

He's 7 and a bit months.
and I've taken two doses.

oh shite

do you mean the drink??

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 16:31

No, the capsules.

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 29/11/2008 16:32

my drinks contain the same thing....

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 16:33

Have you been taking them?
The BfN site says that sudafed dual action and lemsip are fine, then goes on to say not to take anything with phenylephrine...

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 29/11/2008 16:37

yes, mine has phenylephrine in it, as well as paracetemol (paracetemol is fine, i know)

Mimi is right moody today, and we didn't know why...

scorpio1 · 29/11/2008 16:37

Have just downloaded the sheet thing. Thanks for this thread

whomovedmychocolate · 29/11/2008 16:40

VS - Sorry you are feeling ill. I took Metranizadole for a uterine infection after having DS and then got a second pack with the correct leaflet inside which says 'don't take when breastfeeding as linked to childhood cancers'

Tis v difficult. I just have paracetamol now and don't risk anything else.

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 16:55

I can't even find anywhere on the bloody website to complain.
Who opens the box and reads the leaflet before they buy?!?!

WMMC how is that darling boy of yours?

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2008 17:38

The thing is, medicine always bloody well says 'don't take while breastfeeding'. DH once bought me cough medicine, whose active ingredient was molasses (together with a bit of menthol or something, to make it taste all crap and mediciney), which said 'do not take if breastfeeding'.

NotQuiteCockney · 29/11/2008 17:43

Oh, and at 7 1/2 months, and only two pills, it should be fine. The normal thing to do at this point is look into what antihistamines are permitted for your child to have directly and then maybe use those for yourself, iyswim? (Or ones with the same active ingredient.)

Your supply should be fine, at this point.

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 22:00

NQC, that's just it! Everything I'd read on every packet ever said do not take whilst breastfeeding, so as this didn't I thought they'd be fine!
Also, the BfN thing specifically says about the other similar drug "it can dramatically reduce prolactin levels in breastfeeding mothers particularly in established breastfeeding of an older baby" which was why I was worrying about DS.

LeakyDAISYcal · 29/11/2008 22:05

VS, a little more information from Lactmed. Says it is unlikely to get to the baby in large amounts and seems to suggest it's worse if your have a younger baby.

I'm sure it'll be OK, provided you don;t take any more of it

AnarchyAunt · 29/11/2008 22:06

Have you looked at what they say on kellymom?

LeakyDAISYcal · 29/11/2008 22:07

for future reference, Boots own brand lemon cold remedy (the basic one) doesn't contain phenylephrine......or at least it didn't used to. But then again, neither did the basic lemsip until recently.

AnarchyAunt · 29/11/2008 22:07

Cos they seem to be saying phenylephrine is not so bad - its the older pseudoephedrine that could decrease milk supply.

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 22:10

If it did decrease my milk production would increasing it be as simple as growth spurt type feeding and/or expressing?

OP posts:
AnarchyAunt · 29/11/2008 22:12

Kellymom is saying if you notice a drop then stop medication and 'take measures to increase production' - usual advice for that I guess. Don't panic, I'm sure its nothing irreversible.

LeakyDAISYcal · 29/11/2008 22:13

not sure VS; is tiktok around this evening? she might know more.

VictorianSqualor · 29/11/2008 22:16

Haven't seen her.
I'll email Hunker, sure she'll know summit.
