She bf'd her previous until age 3; he had a lot of probs with his teeth & had to have a lot taken out.
The dentist has told her not to bf past the age of 1, certainly not at night, to avoid this with the her youngest, (currently 5 mo-ish, excl bf)
Is he a very stupid man (wow I am being polite) and does anyone have any info on this issue?

Tbh I dont remember the exact explanation given as I was fairly stressed at the time. She (was a women) reckoned she's treated a few cases caused by breastfeeding. I think other dentists didnt spot it as it was dry rot or something like that. Her diet was fine and genetically yes I have bad teeth but hers had simply worn away to nearly nothing.
I'd stopped breastfeeding at this time anyway so didnt go into the whole ins and outs of it with her.

I would assume that it was alos bad luck. As I said ds had no ill effects at all.

I was hercules1 and I am bumping this thread as I now have found out the actual cause of dd's teeth disintegration and it's only taken me till she's nearly 9!
Turns out she has gastro-oesophageal reflux and this caused the problems with teeth and was nothing to do with breastmilk!

What aload of tosh! Bf DD til 13 months, mostly throughout the night - she's now 6 and still has all her baby teeth.
We recently went to the dentist and she said so long as you brush their teeth before bed they'll be fine.

Barebums - it's a very old thread I've dug out so doubt the other posters are around.

DD2 BF well past junior school age and takes sugar free squash to bed, which must still be worse than water.

She had one filled milk tooth and I suspect that has more to do with,
"Yes, Mummy. I have cleaned my teeth" when she jolly well hadn't.
