Breast pad recommendations please

DS2 is due in a few weeks and I need to go shopping for exciting things like breast pads! I used Mothercare disposable and Lansinoh washable ones last time but it's been a few years and I'm sure things have changed so I'm wondering if you could spare a moment to tell me what your favourite breast pads have been.

Anyone use Lilypadz?

Disposable - Tommee Tippee

Washable - mothercare.

Have never tried Lilypadz.

Hope all goes well.

mumnosbest · 28/11/2008 22:31

Used boots washables and johnsons disposables.
Good Luck

WilfSell · 28/11/2008 22:32

Tommee tippee disposable the best but the Mothercare and Boots luxury ones are a good imitation (ie nice and thin, sticky bit to stop them slipping and sealed up). Not very eco friendly but I gave up washables after numerous bouts of thrush...

Yeah - and the Johnson's ones

sweetkitty · 28/11/2008 22:35

Am BFing third baby so have been through a few breastpads in my time.

Favs now are Boots washables

Tried lilypadz, didn't like them although I know plenty that do, they leaked i.e. if I was feeding from one boob the let down from the other one would leak, oh and I got a rash after a few days from using them I think it's because they are plastic and cover your nip entirely that they don't allow it to breathe so I got some weirdy sweat rash thing.

littlelamb · 28/11/2008 22:37

Tommee tippee disposables are the best I've tried. Avoid tescos own

RiojaLover75 · 28/11/2008 22:38

Previously BF two DS's and used Lansinoh both times. Never had a leak.

Sassyfrassy · 28/11/2008 22:57

Can't stand the tomme tippe ones myself. I much prefer the Johnsons ones.

determination · 28/11/2008 22:59

Re-usable - definaately Lansinoh - as long as your prepaired to iron them after washing.

Disposable - Heavenly Pads, they are cheap and identical to Lansinoh and tommii timppee.

Anglepoise · 28/11/2008 23:01

Lilypadz are great but not if you're leaky. I think they're breathable.

All the ones I've tried have seemed much of a muchness (found Tesco own fine) except for the Johnson's one, which I hated and found incredibly uncomfortable (are we all talking about the same thing - greenish box with a photo of mum and baby on?).

littlelamb · 28/11/2008 23:02

Anglepoise- my tommee tippee ones come in a silvery box and are the best I've tried. Tescos seemed to stick fluff all over my nipples and I had to pick it all off before a feed. I may have had a couple of dodgy boxes though (one box was filled with ones with no plastic backing)

Anglepoise · 28/11/2008 23:07

Hmm - have Tesco's in now and no fluff. Though actually I have noticed that they've started to bunch up a bit - not sure whether that's because they're cheap or I'm so leaky!

Tommy Tippee recommendation from here too. Will now look for Heavenly on determination's say so.

Boots terrible, terrible, terrible - leaky, bunchy, just awful in every way

Anglepoise · 28/11/2008 23:52

Heavenly cheapo at the moment! £2.50 for 100 in the sale at breastfeedingheaven.co.uk

blondiep14 · 29/11/2008 09:15

Tommee Tippe or Boots. Big no-no for Tesco's from me too!

stickybean · 29/11/2008 09:38

The BF clinic i went to advised not to use any that were backed in plasic to prevent leaking. This was due to the thrush i had at the time. She advised johnson and johnson or lansioh. I was already using the J&J ones which seem fine, i've never tried anything else to be fair.

mumnosbest · 29/11/2008 15:02

Agree with givethedogabone, Johnsons disposables are bulky/thick but that's why I liked them. They absorbed loads/less leaks!

ChukkyPig · 29/11/2008 15:06

Lansinoh disposables were the best I found.

Considering trying lilypadz this time at night as I hate hate hate wearing a bra in bed.

moomaa · 29/11/2008 20:20

They seem to be in 2 camps, small and thick or thin and large and different people seem to like different camps.

I reckon that there are only actually 2 places making them because I've tried loads and there are such small variations (nice midwife gave me loads of samples). As a result I get mine from the pound shop they are like the Johnsons ones.

thehouseofmirth · 29/11/2008 21:50

Yes moomaa I'm beginning to wish I hadn't asked! I'm now more confused than when I started! Though I think I'll just get some Lansinoh washable ones and 1 box of disposables then at least I'm not saddled with loads I don't like. Gushed like a fountain with DS1 so perhaps I should just stick a bucket under each boob and have done with it...
