NOT TAKING A FEED, SUPPLY GETTING LOW.

My 18 week old breast fed son has suddenly stopped feeding well in the day. He bobs on and off and won't take any more. He has had expressed milk at night since birth and was sleeping 7 till 11 then 11.20 till around 5.30-6am, he now wakes, regular as clockwork at 10.30pm, 2.30 and 5.30am. How on earth do I get him to feed more in the day? I always feed in a subdued manner due to the 4 month distraction syndrome but he rarely lasts more than a couple of minutes and now my supply is dwindling. He started drooling and chewing his fists 5 or 6 weeks ago so has started to teeth and is evidently in some discomfort. To add insult to injury, he now has a cold and is all snuffly. Any ideas? I don't want to resort to formula, nor do I want him to rely on night feeding for all his calories as I have no help in the day and am utterly knackered!

HI my DS is 15 weeks and a very quick feeder only feeds for 2 - 5 mins and then wont take anymore so i wait 30/45 mins and then offer again and he then is happy to feed for another 2 - 5 mins. He is gaining weight well so must be getting enough. it might be worth trying that to see if it'll make a difference. ( mine also has a bottle at bout 10.30 and then wakes between 3 -5)

is it possible that because he's having bottles at night that he's being filled up and just isnt hungry in the day. i'd say the best way to increase supply would be to do a couple of night feeds aswell as te odd bottle your body will start producing more after a few nights your body is more receptive to the niht feeds and will instantly start producing more of the milk making hormoune to compensate for the inreased demand. remember that soft breasts do not equal empty breasts actually the fatty milk that fills your baby up only comes in once the breast has softend and the hydrating milk has been consumed.also both my babies were fast feeders from the word go and it worried me to begin with that they werent getting enough but in time i just realised 3mins on the boob was enough for them and as long as the weight gain remained fine i didnt worry
