DD was weighed today, despite having eaten LOADS all the time she has only put on 1 oz - what is the reason for this - is it my supply?

how old is she, how long since last weigh, how much does she usually put on....
dont panic, my boy keeps doing things like that including losing weight and i maintain that hes just fine. how does she seem in herself?

tiktok · 24/11/2008 15:08

It's never a good idea to draw any conclusions from one weight result, wahwah....apart from that, it can be perfectly normal to gain 1 oz between weighings. How old is your baby and what has been her weight 'history'?

tiktok · 24/11/2008 15:19

Have seen from your other threads your dd must be about 6-7 mths, yes?

No need for worry at all - it is normal and actually a good thing for babies' weight gain to slow as they get older.

Why are you having her weighed, too? It's not normally considered necessary now unless you have a problem. Weigh her when she has her jabs or a routine check - no need to do it more often than that, now

wahwah1270 · 24/11/2008 15:23

she is 19 weeks, she usually puts on 6-7 oz a week, last week she was 13 7, now only 13 8. there have been a couple of blips before esp at 11 weeks when the hv told me to eat more but in light of the amount she ate i was expecting a lot more

It would be unusual for a baby of this age to continue to gain 6-7 ounces a week.

Weekly weighing is not normally recommended for healthy babies - there should be something in your red book about this - because it's the overall trend that's important, not the week by week gain.

I remember - yours was the daft HV who told you to eat more in order for your baby to gain weight

It doesn't sound as if that clinic does anything at all for your confidence

Honestly, I bet your dd is absolutely fine

RedSparklersOnHerHead · 24/11/2008 15:37

HV's - don't you just love 'em!

I second tiktok - she knows what she is talking about!

I don't bother going to my HV anymore (DS is 6mths - almost 7mths now actually) I get him wieghed every so often at our breastfeeding group by the HV there - she is much more knowledgable with all things breastfeeding.

wahwah1270 · 24/11/2008 15:42

thanks tikyok, my hv seems to expect weekly visits and most of the mothers in our baby group seem to go every week so i feel bad if i dont go, but no it doesnt help my confidence ar all and i find tge wgole weifging in our village like a competition .

What did she say to you about your baby's weight this time, wah?

If she's managed to make you worried without even saying anything, then she's prob conditioned you

wahwah1270 · 24/11/2008 17:35

tiktok i think you are right. :0

My 10 month DS put on 7oz in the last 6 weeks. Its perfectly normal and thankfully my HV knows that (DS has been crawling like a maniac for the last 2 months). Can you change HV to try to find a sensible one?

wahwah1270 · 24/11/2008 17:48

Thanks Chairmum - sadly we live in the country and she is the only one for miles around.
