I have 5 months till next LO comes along. DD was 1 yesterday and since I've been pg she has been on one feed a day in the morning. She has been having less and less so today I decided not to feed her and she didn't miss it. I feel ok about it but its weird to think that I won't BF her again.

Aww, it's quite sad isn't it? Well done for getting to 1!

I'm glad you feel OK about it and I hope you are proud of nursing your daughter for 365 days

However it might not yet be the end for her nursing. Some children drop nursing for days or even weeks and still ask for an occasional feed (not that you have to give one).

Also sometimes a child might ask again to nurse when a new baby is at the breast, which is only a few months off for you. Again your choice whether or not you choose to continue/encourage her to wean or just let her decide.

I thought my DD was weaning whilst I was pregnant and at one stage she was down to one nurse a day but now I am tandem nursing a 2.3 year old and a 3 month old !!!

All the best

Well done Febes.
Feel very very proud of yourself.

Doesn't your milk dry up if they don't feed? I wouldn't mind tandem feeding especially if it reduces the leakage!!

Well done! Exactly the same thing happened to me, stopped bfing when dd1 was one year old as I was 3 months pregnant and I found it very uncomfortable.

Bfing dd2 was very easy as I had only stopped 6 months beforehand.

Just look forward to bfing your new baby!

"Doesn't your milk dry up if they don't feed? I wouldn't mind tandem feeding especially if it reduces the leakage!!"

For me I had virtually no leakage this time around but it took 3 months for me to stop having very full breasts at night. I think due to have two nurselings during the day and one at night !!!

If you want to continue to nurse, you could offer a nurse and see what DD does, alternatively you could wait until your new baby is here and reoffer then.

Re Milk drying up, it appears that women have very different experiences of milk drying up in pregnancy and how long women can keep a milk supply without nursing. How ever after a year of nursing, you should have a good milk supply and of course even if you do dry up now, you will get more milk in 5 months time with the arrival of your second child.

All the best

PS. If you do decide to try and nurse your DD though the rest of your pregnancy there is a good support thread here

Same thing here 6 months between stopping BFing one and starting BFing another. I was quite glad DD1 stopped feeding as I was in that horrible sick phase of pregnancy.

She was 18 months when DD2 was born and a few times did ask for the other boob when I was feeding DD2 I did give her it and she would have a few licks but I think she had lost the ability to latch on but I didn't want to deny her as she was so young.

Feeding DD2 was a breeze compared to DD1.

Same happened to me but DD was nearly 22 months and I'm pregnant. She is now turned two and has never asked for milk, not once. Which is weird as I thought she would never give it up but I had such bad sickness for two nights that DH put her to bed, the next night she didn't ask for it, I didn't offer and that was it.

Lets hope our next DC will be easy to feed and quick...
