Hi there,

I cannot seem to remove the yellow valve (with the white flap) from the bottom of my pump. It just wont come off, and I'm sure it needs changing. I have some spare, and nowhere does it say how I can remove the valve. It wont twist off. I'm stuck.......

Also, I wash my pump after each use, very thoroughly, and sterilise it, yet it seems to have some residue on the inside bit, where the bottle brush can't reach. What to do?

Thanks in advance.

I'm doing this from memory as mine is packed away in DD's room and she's fast asleep, but iirc I think it is only the little white disk that needs to be changed. It comes off and can be replaced quite easily. With regards the 'residue' I used to boil mine to sterilise it and it would leave a chalky residue - is this what you have or something else?

I find if you push backwards on the yellow valve it flicks off - a bit tricky but does come off.

Is the residue in the bit that this clicks onto? I use the small end of the bottle brush and hot soapy water on this bit and the yellow valve and use the large end of a bottle brush on the bit thatgoes on your breast .

Thanks for that, will try to remove valve again. The residue is in the middle bit that can't be accessed, it seems to be just around the plasticy bit where the pump bends, iykwim. I think as the milk flows down, I'm sure its fine, but don't want it to build up any more.

Hi Mumma,

I am sure it would be the same as the swing.. but the yellow bit just pulls off and the white bit just pulls off the yellow bit too. These parts should be removed for washing every time.. should they not?

If you happen to break it when removing it i wouldn't worry as you can buy those bits as spares. I lost my white bit down the drain not long after getting the pump

Yellow bit pulls off - but you need a bit of force!
Try pouring boiling water down it for the residue, or a cotton bud, or a pipe cleaner! Hm, where would you buy a pipe cleaner in this day and age?
