Follow on milk - Is it essential to change?

Hi, dd has been ff since birth and is on Hipp. I see they do a follow on milk from 6 months and wondered if its essential to change?

Do they need more vitamins etc when they get to 6 months? I assumed she would get any extra when I wean her then. Thanks.

Not necessary nutritionally but can be cheaper.

No, its something they invented to get round advertising/promotion restrictions on formula so isn't necessary. It can be cheaper tough as they can do price cuts

According to my HV when you start to wean thewm they should get most of their vitamins from food but still nedd to supplement it with milk, follow on is no more nutritional than first stage but as LIZS said it can be cheaper as it was just made to get round advertising laws really.

I will look out to see if it is cheaper.

Thanks.

I did try to switch dd2 onto follow on, as it was cheaper, but it made her really constipated, which i guess is because of the extra iron (just something for you to look out for!) Otherwise dd1 and 2 stayed on 1st milk until they were a year.

Follow on milk was invented purely to get around the UK advertising laws, so no!

It is seven times more expensive than ordinary milk.
So, who wins out.The baby or the company producing it?

Well formula is more expensive than ordinary milk too, but babies under a year are supposed to avoid ordinary milk as a main drink, so formula or breastmilk is necessary.
