Trying to re-latch with ds, is it possible? Should I persevere?

I had to wean ds (22 months) a couple of months ago because it was getting too painful due to pregnancy. He was totally not ready and nor was I, if I'm honest. I had hoped to tandem nurse.

He has kept asking for it, and this morning I thought we would give it another go to see if it would work again. There isn't very much milk there, only a few drops when I try and hand express (I've always been able to squirt streams of milk out before! ) but I thought he might like to try anyway.

But he isn't latching properly - I can tell he wants to try (maybe it's just out of habit though?) but when we get into position - whether sitting or lying - he won't open his mouth properly, and just finds the whole thing deeply hilarious!

I'm really upset that he seems to have lost his latch after such a short time - we'd only been stopped for a total of 6 weeks - and I don't know whether to keep trying or to just accept that this is the end for us an breastfeeding.

I'm not 100% sure.... BUT- i have heard that a child will naturally loose the latch reflex... this can happen as early as 18mths i think.... maybe he was able to feed still because you'd not stopped , and because you had stopped for 6mths maybe he's lost that reflex for good now.

Sure someone more experienced will be along to help soon... I only BF my DC's until 12mths so they could have continued longer.

You can keep trying SD as long as it is not painful for you.
Am in a similar position; dd stopped when I was about 5 months pg when she was 2.3 - now I am 8 months she has started to try again but nothing is coming out.
Am wondering though whether she will give it another go when she sees new baby feeding and whether me getting milk supply going again will help. (I get nothing at all at the moment)
When are you due?

Not due till end of Feb, but had hoped that he wouldn't lose his latch this quickly. I have heard of children re-lactating after as long as a year. I just don't feel ready to stop, and I'm sure he isn't either, but I don't want to force the issue and make it frustrating for him IYSWIM.
