What's a dream feed?

Have read about people doing this, but I just assumed it was a feed in the middle of the night - have just realised that apparently you do it while the baby is still asleep! Is this right? If so, do you do it when they would normally feed? M wakes up anytime between 10 and 11.30 for a feed - would we just try to feed him before he wakes up > How would this mean he'd sleep longer than if he actually woke up for it? (he goes til 2-3ish) Or have I got the wrong end uf the stick...?!

A dream feed is when you 'top them up' as it were by feeding them when they are asleep. Its a lovely feed and very often, no winding as they are so relaxed!

Used to do it with DS around 11pm and it used to buy us an extra hour or so...you could try feeding your DS around 11pm if he hasn't woken up by then and see how he goes - but 2-3ish is what we got from DS anyway, at least until he was a little older and his tummy held more milk

We used to do the dream feed. It really worked for us. Used to go and wake them up (twins) just before I went to bed and they always had a massive feed. Then I would be guaranteed 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Otherwise, if I left them to their own devices, they would always wake up an hour or two after I'd dropped off! Horrible!!!!

It works for some and not for others. We loved it

Every time I try to dream feed my four week DD (okay, so it's only been two attempts!) it's impossible to wiggle my nipple into her mouth because she's so fast asleep! Hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually..

I think I may have done this a few hundred times. I didn't know it had a name!
