BCG jab @ 7 weeks old bf baby in London

My dd is due for this jab today. I am probably being irrational but isn't she protected by my immunity? Does anyone know if fully bf babies can catch tb?

I am happy for her to have it but it just seems so young, I'd rather she were bigger and stronger.

Out of interest has anyone's DC been a bit older when having this immunisation? My DS is 9mo and TBH i just havent got round to getting it done

Will it be terribly traumatic now he is a bit older - want to prepare myself...

Yes, my 3 yr old made a drama out of it. They seem to inject the vaccine in quite slowly,so that prolongs it. Unfortunately, two nurses had to hold my bucking bronco 3 yr old down.. I tried to placate him afterwards with a bag of crisps (big treat) but he threw them at me. He was betrayed.

THey still have a red mark on their arms weeeeeeks later.

I remember having it done when I was about 13. It was horrible.

MrsHappy · 11/11/2008 09:30

It's a different kind of jab now to the one they used to give at 13. It is much less reactive I think.
My DD had hers at 6mo and hardly batted an eyelid. For reasons I've given above I wish she had had it at birth, though!
Her scar did get a little bit infected, but even that was no big deal.

That's good to know. (I did have it done about 100 yrs ago.
