Which type of bottle/teat to give EBM in?

Baby is 4 weeks on Tues. I am planning to go back to work at 4 months (PT) and will try to continue to breastfeed by expressing at work.

HV has advised that I should introduce a bottle of EBM each day from between 4-6 weeks to ensure baby does not refuse later on.

So - what is the best type of bottle/teat to use?? I have been watching baby whisperer on Discovery H&H so am thinking Haberman feeder or the Tomee tippee closer to nature bottles (but I think these are not BPA free??).

Does anyone have any words of wisdom??

Thanks

Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature slow flow

Dr Browns are great - they're in boots.

Did the same with my dd but returned at 6 months. 4-6 wks seems a little early to introduce a bottle imo unless you have other reasons for wanting to do so. I started about 1 month before, just getting DH to give her lunchtime feed each day. The first week or 2 were awful, we used avent bottles as my DS was fine with them and we still had them. Eventually with under 2 weeks to go I tried Tommee Tippee closer to nature, with stage3 teats. She took it straight away, even from me. They're great and are quite like a breast. Not sure what you mean by BPA free though.

I second the recommendation for Tommee Tippee Closer To Nature bottles, with the first size teats, My DS has happily taken EBM from these since he was 3 days old with no problems with nipple confusion.

My HV also told me to wait until baby was 6 weeks before introducing a bottle but I remember my doing this with my DD and she flatly refused to accept a bottle ever so I decided to try much earlier this time around and it worked. I suppose this depends on the baby though, DD was a complete boob magnet!

BTW, If you buy a Tommee Tippee sterilier (microwave or mains) you usually get 3 bottles included and I've found that both Tesco and Asda have the microwave ones on offer for £10 quite regularly.

Thanks for all your advice.

I have no other reason to introduce a bottle so early - and would prefer not to really but don't want her to refuse later.

BPA = bisphenol (?) A - see here

Anyone have any experience of Haberman feeder or is it just a gimmick??

I suppose you could introduce the bottle early on to put your mind at rest and then just use it when you need/want to but as I said my dd was a real pain and even she took a bottle of EBM after 2 weeks of persevering (sp?) and feeling like I was trying to force feed her.
Surprised by BPA link and will check my bottles but luckily dd uses a cup/beaker just about all the time now.
Good Luck BClass

just want to say, that if you want your baby to take a bottle later, you need to give it to her regularly - I mean once every 2 days - as they quickly forget how to do it again. I was nearly in this position but a friend's baby refused after just a few weeks between EBM bottle feeds. So you can't just use it when you need/want to after she initially takes it.

agree with mrsjamin to begin with but once they're used to it, they don't need it that regularly. At 6 months DD could have 2 aday for 3 days then none for the rest of the week she also happilly took a bottle after 2 weeks (half term) with no bottle. However realise that all babies are different and I might just have been lucky. Also I guess younger babies would forget quicker.

I've tried with the TT CtN and DD will take it reluctantly but doesn't seem keen. The Breastflow bottles (available from Mothercare) have been recommended to me but I haven't tried them yet

I agree with mumnosbest that by 6/7 months you don't need to give it so regularly as they remember how to take it better. But by then I guess you'll be back at work so you'll be using a bottle anyway.
