O.k. Ds2, 2 weeks old. Have been bf, and topping up of breastmilk form a bottle since birth. He was thick blood. jaundice, tongue tied, EmCS.
Has always been quite windy. But dh is fab at getting his wind up. And I am not bad.

But in the last 2 days it has got worse. And last night he was up ALL NIGHT. Dh was up with him for a bit. Then me. Then Dh got him and took him down to watch the Joe Calzaghe fight
He is clearly in pain. Screaming. We are severly struggling to get his wind up. he is so hunched. as soon as he burps the relief is obvious.

what do we do ?

I had been using these tiny plastic containers, that I stole from Kings, that they give to ladies wanting to express milk. They came with teats aswell. But one gave up the ghost and I threw the other away , by mistake, and it was binman day.

So I bought advent bottles. and a number one teet. My mum and I both noted that it looked like ds2 was gulping alot with thses. But i do need to move onto a decent sized bottle at some point. ANd if it is a problem of transition, and adjusting to the incresded flow, we will face this again and agian a, as we change teats , non ?

can I give him something like colief, or is he too young ?

shall i take him to cranial oestopath because he had a cs ?

shall I take him to an oestopath because of his tongue tied ?

Do I need to wind him differently ?

do I need to wind him mid feed ? ie.e I change breast - shall i do it then ?
or shall i stop the bottle feed mid flow and wind him ?

any advice welcome.

because he is clearly in pain and dh and I are upset by that and very very tired.

Sorry, not sure of the background here, oblomov. If you think the issue is bottles and teats, then would it not be easier and better just to bf direct? Why are you using bottles?

BFQ

TONGUETIED

Tiktok, I have struggled with bf. In hospital for week post cs, thick blood, jaundice, low blood suagars. I was engorged. expredssed. then they said they wanted him fed 60ml every three hours. discharged.
I am still struggling with my blood sugars whilst bf settles.

Then MW at home says tongue tied. all makes sense. snipped. but bf does not improve. been to bf clinic twice. so have been bf at every feed, but topping up with bottles, since day 4. now day 14.

BF senior says tongue still very tight even though snipped. latch o.k. sometimes. but he has got into bad habits and it slips, even if initially brilliant. she says that it wioll take awful lot effort to retrain him. I am at breaking poiunt at this point. I have ALOT of milk. So I decide to try latch, feed him at every go, but not to worry if latch not brill every time. and to continue to pump and top up as necc.

I feel this is all that I can manage . And is best for the welfare of my whole family - relationship wirh dh, ds1.

advent bottles, amking wind worse ?

Sorry, Oblomov, had not see other threads so did not know background. Sounds a nightmare

Can't really help....not really au fait with the market and what types are available.

But if you were getting on well with the items you got from Kings - how about calling them and explaining and asking them to give you a couple??

Hope things get better for you soon.

What helped DS who screamed in agony with wind/colic. After a feed, would rub his tummy - just below belly button in a circular motion. It helped.

Also putting him in sling after a feed helped. Maybe it was gravity?

Have you tried a slow flow teat? Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature slow flow seems to work for DS.

I haven't found a universal panacea for wind/colic. Think it's just working out things that help...

CarGirl · 09/11/2008 18:11

I think Dr Browns bottles are supposed to be the ones that stop them getting wind. Does your Mum drive? Can she get you some from mothercare tomorrow? If not I could get you a couple and drop them around (won't stay!)

Pannacotta · 09/11/2008 18:16

DS1 had awful problems with wind (exbf).
I found that sitting him up after a feed helped, leaning him forward supported by the crook of my arm. Also we used to rub his back/tummy after a feed and DH would walk around with him slung over his shoulder.
These all helped him to burp.

Not sure about bottles/teats as I only used a bottle of ebm after 5-6 weeks or so but yes a slow flow teat might help.

Hope things get easier for you.

CarGirl · 09/11/2008 18:19

Is it worth trying to top up after every other feed until you can something sorted with the bottles? Dh used sit dd up and then lean her back & forward (a bit like row row the boat but obv you are support the baby not using their hands!) and that seemed to be very good.

Oblomov · 09/11/2008 18:44

Hi Cargirl. My lifesaver.
My SIL phoned and recommended dr browns. said they were at mothercare or boots. dh is actually on holiday tomorrow, but has other things to do.
If you wouldn't mind, i would very much appreciate it if you could get mye a couple. that would be fab.
I am in all day. and would love a cup of cofee. YOU MUST STAY

Tiktok, I was using those tiny plastic things that they give ladies who express. I kind of assumed that we would need to change bottles. and that every teat change 1 to 2, 2 to 3 means adjustment, baby getting used to flow being too much initially. SO I kid of assumed I couldn't go back to kings bottles.

obama and pannacotta, appreciate tips, greatly.

Okay will go first thing and drop them off at yours will get 2 unless they're 3 packs IYSWIM - think they sell well on ebay because they are £££££££££££££££££££££££ compared to the others - anything else you need from mothercare or Argos whilst I'm there???? Off out now but will check this thread before bed time.

CarGirl · 09/11/2008 23:03

Hi If I don't get to you by 11.30 I'll have to collect dd and then come with her - it will be a very quick visit if she's with me!

Oblomov · 10/11/2008 08:51

CarGirl, we will go to mothercare. But thanks for the offer.

obs if not to late, I can highly recommed these www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-steriliser-bottles-240ml-3pk/dp/B001CJ65CU/sr=1-4/qid=1226307308/ref=s r14/275-6105622-7011444?%5Fencoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=44555031&mcb=core

great if you are supplementing, as each bottle takes just 90- secs in the microwave to sterilise...so no faffing with steriliers overnight and biug bulky equipment.....also come with a slow flow teat...Have used with all 3 DC's. DS1 with expressed breast milk, DS2 to supplement and using with DC3 now.......
