hi i have mastitus which has come on suddenly, feeling terrible, shivery, achey, hot sore boob etc and pain when feeding. I am only feednig morning nad ngiht and just one side in the morning and one side before bed. Been to docs and been given antibioticss and he has said it would also help feeding more. I dont want to start feeding again in the day so if i feed for five mins of boob i would not normally and then the normal boob at the feeds i do then once the mastitus has gone how do i drop this other boob without risking a blocked duct or mastitus? Can you do this completley or by dropping feed in minutes? I dont really want to be doing double boob again once i am better as i dropped these feeds a while back and it works really well with having another child and getting out the house in the morning and before bed.

Sorry for long ramble and advice welcome

do you have time when you could express? this might be a way of avoiding painful engorging.

but bear in mind that if you express, you will generate more milk. same goes for feeding more.

i recently dropped a daytime feed due to going back to work and am now just on morning and evening just like you. i got engorged for two days (not as bad as mastitis, granted) but after that the milk production levels adjusted themselves to the missed feed.

mastitis is a total nightmare and i'm sorry you've got it, but once the antibiotics have cleared it up, i would say try to persevere just feeding AM and PM and your milk levels will adjust accordingly.

in addition to antibiotics, have you tried alternating warm and cold flannels on the breast when you're in the bath? this can help avoid blocked ducts by allowing the ducts to expand and contract, generally improving milk flow.

hope it improves for you snarf.
