Ten-month old pulling off

My dd is 10 months and she does want to feed but she keeps pulling off the breast - sometimes after seconds to look around her, laugh, play etc. It seems like every feed now. She rarely gets stuckin for a good old feed. I'm beginning to get a little paranoid about it as she's pretty small and we've just stopped night feeds.

Am I just fretting?

hi, i have the same problem with my 10.5 mo. he does a couple of sucks, no let down, then struggles to get away from me.

he will occasionally have a small feed, but there seems no pattern to it. have tried quiet room, but hard as also have toddler. some success with feed after a meal, when meal a bit smaller than previously.

i'm hoping it is just a phase and will pass...

good luck

thanks. I'm not sure if she's getting enough milk. I'm thinking of expressing and giving a bottle but I don't really want the faff.

This sounds familiar!
I'm sure if she was really hungry she would knuckle-down and feed properly. It's not in a baby's best intrests to starve themselves!
If she is healthy and happy, you are doing something right. Pop into your local clinic if you're really worried. Try to remember though, if she isn't putting on as much weight as before, it could be because they are so much more active at this age.

Hi, at this stage I started taking ds off into a different room to feed him- anything else going on in the same room was just too interesting for him! I also cut his feeds, so he was getting 3 decent feeds rather than lots of half-hearted feeds

My Dd did that at that age too. They just become very aware of what is around them and don't want to miss anything. Just keep going. IME, it doesn't stop. Dd is 22+ mos now and still does it. My Dd is petite too, although she is tall.
IIRC, my Ds did the same thing and he was big for his age.
Could you have a chat with your HV?

Solo - I prefer to keep HVs out of it. I've had 6 in ten months and not one of them has been supprotive - really - of bf. My dd is tall too.

Jooly - I think cutting feeds to 3 is a good idea.

ANd the quiet room, Cranky. She's pretty much on the same line so I'm not too worried. I just wondered if it might have something to do with supply.

Thanks.

6 in 10 months! so you wouldn't have got to know them anyway. No, definitely forget that idea then. Sorry.
