Help

Dd is horrible at the moment. She is a little over 6 months and I've been weaning for a couple of weeks. I was sooooo hopeing that she would soon be able to milk feed every 4 hours, have food inbetween and sleep really well.

Alas, she refuses to open her mouth for food, is bf every 2 hours and waking loads through the night. She is wingey throughout the day and I'm at the end of my tether.

Will this pass soon?

is she teething or showing signs of teething?

sunshine75 · 03/11/2008 20:00

She's been showing signs of teething for the last 2 months but no sign of the buggers yet!!

my ds dribbled for about three months before he got his first tooth. Your dd's whingeyness could well be down to her teeth causing her some problems even before they've poked through the gum. Will she let you put a finger in her mouth? Can you rub a bit of teething gel on her gums? If you can and it really helps then you have your answer.

Thanks. Will try that tomorrow

Good luck

As my Mum is fond of telling me, this too will pass. 6m can be a big growing time which could explain the 2hrly feeds, and food can take a while to get used to. Are you doing purees or more of a BLW thing? BLW def easier for not feeling you've wasted loads of time and effort.
DS was waking loads at 6m, sometimes for a feed, sometimes for his own reasons, it seemed. I got DP to see to him if it was in between 4 hrly so I could get a little sleep. Slowly, as he began to eat more and got himself into a really consistent routine, he's begin to sleep better. Now, at nearly 8m, he's occasionally sleeping through (hurray!). Just telling you so you can know there is light at the end of the tunnel. Have you got a sling or carrier for when she really doesn't want to be apart from you?

sunshine75 · 04/11/2008 10:04

Yes, got a sling but I find it a bit uncomfortable after a while. Doing a mixture of purees and blw and to be honest she's not interested in either!!

i used the gina ford routing with similar dd aged 6.5 months, refusing to feed her except for every four hourly. took four days, and she not only started eating solids, but was eating absolutely everything within a few weeks. gave blw a new star

cheesemonster · 04/11/2008 10:41

I know its frustrating but maybe she's just not ready for food yet? How about leaving it a week & then trying again?

euromum · 04/11/2008 10:42

Don't really have any advice, I just wanted to send some encouragement - I and many of my friends all found weaning really hard going and it's maybe just the nature of it. Can't really blame the little darlings if they prefer the boobs to all this new stuff, it must be a bit of a shock to the system! We struggled in a similar way to you for almost 2 months until dd was really ready to start eating puree or finger food. I found it all got easier once I realised it just is difficult and stopped stressing about it - I was also feeling at the end of my tether and I guess I had been passing on my worries to dd. Anyway, good luck and I hope it works out for you both soon and you get some better nights' sleep!
