I am trying but she just spits it all back out again. I don't think any has gone down at all, have been trying for 24 hours and there has been no improvement She is five weeks old and only weighs one ounce more that her birth weight.

I am getting increasing stressed as she will not be put down for more than a minute and a 20 month old who hasn't adjusted to the clock change yet!

Typing errors and missing words due to holding the baby and trying to write at the same time, sorry!

Have you tried this?

sadly she won't take a dummy - thanks for the suggestion though.

I used to express 5-10mls of milk, mix in the Gaviscon when it was time to give it and put it in a syringe. I then squirted the Gaviscon/milk into DD's cheek. This usually resulted in most of it going down.

DD's reflux was not that severe, and Gaviscon proved enough to fix it. If you've seen no improvement after a few days of Gaviscon, go back to the GP and demand something stronger.

That is a good idea - thanks. Will try now.

I used to bf,and at the same time slip the syringe into the side of her cheek, and slowly pushed it in while she was sucking.

We really, really struggled with this. It also said to give after a feed but for us, the end of the feed was signalled by the vomiting, so that was hardly going to work! I used to mix with mater as per instructions and try and give immediately before the feed when he'd open his mouth to root. We often didn't get it all down but it helped along the way.

Thankfully he grew out of the refluxing pretty quickly but it's awful while it lasts isn't it?

The best way to actually mix the powder into liquid form is put it in a small tightly lidded container, add the amount of water as per instructions and shake very hard - much easier that the way they say!

We soon gave up on the gaviscon but when we did use it we used the tricks above. We carried a small container marked with a line so that we could use it to measure the water, lid it and shake to mix etc. The only way I got it down was to have a syringe in the corner of her mouth whilst she was breastfeeding. I knew it had gone in when her poo changed to a solid jelly like consistency and I started to feel guilty for doing that to her - not that it's wrong, just that I was unhappy about it.
