Help needed with expressing & storing BM & giving to nursery!

I never really expressed for DS1, didn't go back to work until he was 1.

Going back to work one day a week starting on Monday.
DS2 (9mo) will be away from me for 2 feeds (mid-morning & mid-afternoon). I was going to let him just have water & a snack as it's only 1 day. But during his settling in session last monday it didn't exactly work...he screamed from 3-4 when i fed him anyway...[

So i'm thinking of expressing (& collecting) enough for 2 feeds over the weekend, then on Mon I will try and express at work.

So many questions though!:

  • if i keep the milk in the fridge over the weekend, can i keep adding to it? (from collection shells and the pump)
- do i need to take it to nursery in a cooler bag? - do they need to keep it in the fridge? - when i express at work i don't have a fridge, can i just have it on the side until i can take it home and fridge it? - will i need to freeze it as it won't be used until the following monday?

Then my plan is to gradually replace those feeds with snacks and water anyway so i will only have to do this for a couple of months (i hope!).

Also he has taken ebm from a bottle before, should i send in bottles for nursery or a sippy cup? He has his juice/water from a sippy cup but still needs a bit of help to actually drink from it, i suppose they would be holding his bottle for him anyway so makes no odds to them.

Thanks if you've got this far, sorry for being so long-winded!
Any tips?

is there any chance you can nip back on lunch and feed him? I did this for a while until dd2 could have snacks and water? Are you sure the screaming was for milk and not just coz he didnt want to be left?
I have to say, I dont think nursery nurses at dd1s nursery would have spent ages feeding dd from a sippy cup . I might get slated but bottle might be a little bit of comfort atm too.

You can add to the milk if its all cold (best way is to keep two bottles in the fridge so that you can pour out from shells into one, and then pour it into the main one when cold)

If you won't be very long on the way to nursery, no. If its more than 5 minutes fridge to fridge, then yes.

Yes

If you put blue freezer blocks in a cool bag, you can cool the milk down and keep it cool for the day. I put my milk in the canteen fridge though.

I'd freeze it.

Prob best to use a bottle. The nursery nurses would be fine with a sippy cup, but easier to deal with a bottle if he was unhappy

Here are official storage guidelines for you Just

I am sure there is an obligation for work to provide a fridge for you (& a room to express in) but maybe someone more knowledgable about this can advise.

i think legally dont work have to provide you with somewhere to store? could be wrong though

Thanks all!

The 2 bottles in the fridge is a great plan, thanks

15min drive so yes to cooler bag.

Anyway then i would have the cooler bag with me in the office too, will have to get some freezer blocks i think.

V small office, no canteen, think there may be a tiny countertop fridge i maybe able to squeeze a bottle in there.

Will have to freeze it then between mondays.

DS1 is in the nursery too and i would have to walk through his room to get to DS2 so not ideal. PLus then i would have to 'leave' him 3 times, morning, and after 2 feeds, also not ideal.
