EMERGENCY! WHY isn't dd2 latching on any more? she must be ravenous but she just will not latch. Sucks away on a finger, oh yes...

i'm actually getting pretty upset about it.

it seemed to start last night (a HORRIBLE night when dh eventually gave her some formula to get her to calm down as i was exhausted).

anyway, today she's really not fed well at all, or for very long. (nor has she slept well or for very long, the poor starving thing).

seems like i've been at it all day and while i really wouldn't mind that if she was sucking away and growing fat, she just isn't.

any ideas as to why she's suddenly forgotten how to latch on? my tits don't feel full so my nips are a bit squashy going in, but it's never bothered her before.

Glad DD seems to have settled down. I used to take DD outside when things were getting to much, I think we fed off each other's stress. Don't worry about the sugar, I've eaten really sugary things all through bfing DD and the only time she got thrush was because she'd been on antibiotics. We've got to get through this somehow Agree with Habbibu, you are doing brilliantly!

thanks. still feel it's all on a knife edge though...

Oh, that sounds better!

I have porridge for brains - it was obviously dd1 that you were thinking of giving the brufen-or-whatever to a little while ago.

But if I were you I'd check out with a paed what they think about the 3 month advice for dd2. I think what it says on the bottle can be very conservative and not always based on an actual observed risk iyswim.

Good luck with dentist. I have a toothache atm and can't figure out which would be more tricky - an appointment now when I can't lie on my back or an appointment after the baby is born when if it's anything like its sisters it will be feeding round the clock and screaming every time it's unlatched. Gah......

Eek, sorry about hijack will shut up about my tooth now!

AitchTwoOh · 29/10/2008 22:13

my sympathies on the dental front. and fwiw, i'd say go now... you won't want to after the baby is born. do you know what the gender is, btw?

You're right of course [abject coward]

No idea what it is (a lemur? an aardvark?), it's going to be a surprise. Although if it's a boy, it's going to have to wear a heck of a lot of pink.... [mean]

bugger. only an ounce and a half (ie nothing) this week. good news is that the bfc agreed that something is wrong with her, it's not my bfing, and has called for a thrush remedy of some description just in case. dd2's bottom is not responding to any of the nappy rash stuff and is now spotting a bit more like the pics on the internet so i think it's time.

Good that the bfc is getting you thrush meds. Make sure both of you take. Apparently - and I dont know much of the evidence behind it but studies have shown etc - but, actimel/yakult type things are good when dealing with thrush type things. Might be worth a punt? (for you, I mean - not to give DD

AitchTwoOh · 30/10/2008 18:57

they're only for dd but i'll ask my doc for some too. bler about the yakult.

Glad things seem to be getting sorted. Even if she hasn't put much weight on this week there's always next week, particularly if she's been feeling off. You can use acidophilus tablets, which are the same as actimel/yakult and you can get them from holland and barretts. They helped DD's to clear up.

welliemum · 30/10/2008 19:40

Good idea, here's hoping that thrush meds sort it all out quickly.
