sterilising bottles/cups still necessary for 9 month old?

Sorry to be a bit thick but I'm confused. General advice is to sterlise bottles until lo is 1 year old, but my ds is 9 months old and taking ready made formula from tommy tippee cups so do I need to sterlise these if the milk is already sterile (as opposed to powder)? Advice on the carton says it's ok not to from 6 months. And is it the same or different for bottles if using ready made?

I'd assumed extra caution with bottles because they are more fiddly and old milk could get trapped.

Cheers.

nah, just give it a good wash with a bottle brush

Didn't read properly, if you're not even using teat bottles (very impressed at 9 months, well done!) then no way would I bother sterilising

I just used the dishwasher. I very rarely sterilised anything, as DS was mostly breastfed with the odd formula feed. Those bottles were put in the dishwasher.

I take it he's licking his toys/hands/floor/bin now?

Just make sure the cups are very clean (although if you could explain to me just HOW you are supposed to clean the spouts of those cups, and in the hinge.........)

Yeah, into everything filthy. I thought the issue was with the powdered formula and all those scare stories about some awful bacteria. But now he's down to the equivalent of 2 bottles a day but from a cup.

Have to admit minkyborage that I've persevered with the cup as the bottles are such a faff to clean! Hubbie thinks he should still have a bottle at bedtime as he reckons the cups are too fast flow but he's ok so I'm sticking with the cup.
Thanks all.

ruby I'm with you. Why go backwards. You're right about the powdered stuff too, but bacteria is killed when you heat the water, provided you don't leave the bottles standing around.
