Anyone found that infant gaviscon worked for excessively possetting baby?

My three weeks old possetts all the time after and between feeds and was wondering if anyone had had positive experiences with infant gaviscon to sort out this kind of problem. He is breastfeeding and is otherwise well, put on a pound in his first three weeks.

My ds had this and it sort of helped, yes, although not completely - he still posseted sometimes. I would see your GP if you haven't already. Good luck!

My DS has reflux and was given gaviscon. It just made his pain worse as it locked the gripe inside him, and didn't allow him to bring up the sick. I know from MN that it works really well for some babies, it just hasn't worked for mine.

they do grow out of it. ds1 posseted all the time but once he was sitting up and his tummy muscles stronger it disappeared. Posseting is normal hence mums having baby sick on one shoulder all the time!
GP's get over excited and start prescibing meds.

dd2 used it briefly as advised by the speech and lang therapist, think we got a px from the gp. it helped a bit, but she had other issues really. dd1 was the most vommity child and we just lived with it as she put on weight and wasn't in any discomfort (she was also bf so a bit more difficult to administer lol). tbh a certain amount of possetting is quite normal - and there is a lot of variation in 'normal'! have you tried all the usual tricks - keeping upright for as long as poss after feed etc? some kids just do it more than others i think. if there is obvious discomfort then you can ask gp or hv, but moslty they just grow out of it...

thanks for all this, i'm a first time mum and i think i just have to get used to the possetting. he brings up mouthfuls pretty much throughout the day and sometimes quite a lot immediately after a feed. it doesn't seem to bother him, but there's something distressing about seeing all that hardwork (breastmilk) go to waste. Plus I find it difficult at night because after a feed i'm longing to put him down and i know that if i don't hold him upright for at least half an hour, he'll puke in his moses basket, and i do worry a bit he'll do it when i'm asleep and somehow choke or something. oh god, the worries of motherhood...i'm only just realizing how many there are...

with me it was the opposite of popzie, did not stop the puking but stopped the pain, if your dc is in no pain + putting on loads of weight then gaviscon is really not worth the effort.

wait until you decide to express and he turns his nose up at the bottle - that's fairly depressing lol!
he sounds perfectly normal and very lovely. is dh there? we had a rule that if i was feeding a lot at night, when dcs were fed i booted dh awake and he 'held' or changed nappies as necessary afterwards whilst i crashed - not all the time but if i'd been feeding for hours or several times. i found listening to him snore not quite so depressing that way... i also found that feeding whilst lying down worked for dd1 - i could half doze that way and then prop myself up for twenty minutes and a cuddle.
