Baby Fidgeting Whilst Bottle Feeding

Clairemac2004 · 24/10/2008 18:21

Can anyone help, our dd (3 months old) is fidgeting a lot during bottle feeding. She moves her head (while still feeding) and also arches her back and stuff.

I wind her a few times during the feed but it doesn't help. She has recently moved from breastfeeding to bottle feeding (which she's been able to do since birth also).

I currently have her on Cow & Gate Comfort 1 and she's spitting up a fair bit, I'm not sure if its the formula that's causing it.

I would probably say it's just that she is interesting in the things around her and is "expecting" her bottle to follow where she goes. My DC both did this at about 3mths and both were breastfed, so it's probably the same sort of thing.

Is she frustrated? Could it be that her milk isn't coming out fast enough for her and maybe you need a faster teat (just summising on that one though) Maybe someone will be able to give you correct advice on what age for what teat as I have no idea.

hope it helps a little

She's quite a slow feeder so I found the teat for 3 months was too fast for her as she ended up spitting loads of it out whilst feeding (one wet bib per feed). I've changed bottles and she's feeding better on the new bottles but still moving her head about all the time.

try to feed without any distractions, tv off etc.. and see if that makes a difference... if she feeds well, then you know its because other things are catching her attention.
again, i don't know anything about formulas, but maybe try her on something different?

Yeah going to perservere but if not will try a different formula.

She sleeps through the night so I shouldn't complain really.

could be reflux?

Clairemac2004 · 24/10/2008 19:18

Yeah thought about reflux so may have to see Dr about that.

Would that cause her to get fidgety?

I have an 8 month old little boy and hes been fidgety since he was in the womb. He has always hiccuped alot since the womb too and still gets alot of hiccups now.
when Im giving him his bottle, his left leg is constantly moving from side to side and his left hand is always flailing around or playing with my hair etc. When I put him in the shopping trolly in the supermarket he has to keep sticking his legs in and out at the side and he wont sit still in the highchair to eat finger food etc. The only way I have been able to get him to eat finger foods is to give them to him in his walker in the kitchen and he happily scoots around the kitchen munching on toast, banana etc.
In his cot he is constantly turning over one way or the other and it looks like he cant possibly be getting any rest but he must be because hes generally a very happy giggly little boy when hes awake.

However due to his constant need to fidget ( it is my belief) he started crawling at 7 months and at 8 months he is walking when you hold his hands and can pull himself up to standing if he holds onto you or furniture.

My 3mths old DD is exactly the same.

I think theres just so much to see now she's more alert that its all just too interesting!
She enjoys waving her arms and legs around all over the place. She doesnt mean to but quite often knocks the bottle out of my hands!
Gentle holding her hand can calm her down.

Lately ive found that if constantly talking to her when feeding then her attention is just on me and as long as I continue to talk to her, she generally drinks reasonably ok.

My DD too is generally a wriggler.. her legs are always kicking and shes bloomy strong!- Get a strong boot if you get in the way!
