It's just that a lot of it seems anecdotal, rather than being based on provable fact.

Which is important when making such huge claims.

Nestle would sue them for defamation if it weren't true - you can be sure of it. They have armies of lawyers for that sort of thing.

Interesting letter here

The breaches of the Code are well-documented. Syed Aamir Raza lives in Canada now, as a refugee, because he feared for his life in Pakistan.

lol Tis only £6 on Amazon so shouldn't put me out of pocket too much.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 16/10/2008 00:29

Fair point. That's really interesting, tbh I hadn't properly looked into Nestle, though I know enough to hate the feckers. I'll seek out that book.

Coca fecking cola however, I could do a phd on them.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 16/10/2008 00:31

chipmonkey, m&s do walnut whips.

And an alternative to the body shop is neals yard. I love it.

differentWitch · 16/10/2008 00:33

do you know whta really p**s me off about Nestle? They're the only sodding company I have found that does Condensed milk. I know there's suppoed to be a brand called Peak, but I haven't got a clue where to find it.

differentWitch · 16/10/2008 00:34

I mean apart from the obvious reasons I support the boycott!

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 16/10/2008 00:35

differentwitch do you have an asian grocery shop near you? Or polish?

differentWitch · 16/10/2008 00:36

We have a little Polish shop in town. Would they do it?

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 16/10/2008 00:38

They do in my local one, haven't got one in the house right now to tell you the brand but worth a try anyway.

differentWitch · 16/10/2008 00:40

Thank you. I've been desperate to make my chocolate fudge for over 18 months now, but haven't been able to. Was seriously considering trying to make my own!

toolly · 16/10/2008 00:42

I made my own condensed milk twice. Milk powder and sugar. Turned out quite well

Freckle · 16/10/2008 07:03

I have been boycotting Nestle for over 14 years now, but, since I changed email address and stopped getting the updates from BabyMilkAction, haven't really thought about the issue recently. My children know all about the boycott and berate their friends if they buy Nestle stuff. They even pulled me up on something which I'd bought not realising it was Nestle.

DH often buys Nestle stuff, mainly because he likes it but I suspect there's an element of irritating me in it. MIL always buys Nestle because she thinks the boycott is silly so she will deliberately choose Nestle. Bitch .

singingtree · 16/10/2008 07:27

This has been posted before, but it is truly shocking mothers feeding babies fed nestle coffee creamer instead of formula in Laos. The marketing seems to be deliberately ambiguous and babies are dying

theSuburbanDryad · 16/10/2008 08:48

An alternative to Body Shop is Lush - much better products (although v expensive) and also not tested AT ALL on animals (unlike Body Shop )

DeeInMalaysia · 16/10/2008 08:55

Can someone explain to me briefly what it's about? Have heard stuff about Nestle but can't open the link. (maybe because it's censored over here, and nestle is promoted bigtime here?)

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 16/10/2008 09:42

basically, nestle promote and market formula milk in developing countries where it is not always possible to ensure proper hygeine, ie sterilising bottles/clean water, also poverty means many women give it too dilute to make it last longer. doctors are given 'gifts' and promote/prescribe FM to mums who are not empowered to question their authority. babies die because of this.

tellnoone · 16/10/2008 09:45

I bought Ski yogurts this week online at asda, only to realise they were nestle when I unpacked. I was annoyed with myself.

DeeInMalaysia · 16/10/2008 11:07

That's terrible!!
Here in Malaysia Nestle is promoted everywhere you go. Also the supermarkets have more different types of formula than I have ever seen in my life! (a lot are by nestle and they make formula for kids up to 10 years old and also for pregnant woman) They don't promote bf because they say if you bottlefeed that the baby sleeps longer and better and grows better. They also say over here that formula makes babies smarter and the pro-pro-education asians here love that!

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 16/10/2008 12:08

so you see...and when you have doctors telling less educated/assertive women that formula is best...awful.

chipmonkey · 16/10/2008 13:13

TDWP. I know M+S do them but they do them in packs of 3 and I end up eating all 3 at once as I have No Self Control!

hunkermunker · 16/10/2008 20:41

DeeInMalaysia, that ought not shock me because I know it happens, but it still does
