Need advice about reflux and formula.

My 17 week old dd3 is breastfed and has been diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks old She does not have any meds for this as the doctor thought I was coping well and could manage ok.
For various reasons I now need to introduce formula and I wondered if any one could suggest the best formula for reflux babies? I have asked my hv and they said any formula will be ok but I thought I'd ask the experts what you suggest!
Please forgive me if I do not reply for some time as we are now coming up to the part of the day when pacing up and down is the only thing to keep calm.
Thanks.

completely depends on how bad her reflux is.
If she hasnt been on meds then would try whatever you feel best with [with dd2 we used aptamil] then go and get a prescription for either gaviscon or carobel

toots - what kind ofreflux does your baby have? sicking up lots or acid pain?

are you realy coping? if so, how???

DD (almost 5 weeks) just been diagnosed with acid reflux. she is taking gaviscon which has made a big improvement, but i'm desperately trying to find a way she can take it while breast feeding - it seems to disove & work better in formula (aptimil).

avoid formula for hungry babies as this stays in stomach longer and you dont want that with reflux.

Thans nemo. I haven't heard much about carobel so I will find out more about it.

Hi Jess. DD has the sicking up lots reflux. As she is my third baby I'm so busy with all of them I find the days just whizz past. Constant outfit changes are a pain though! How is your DD getting on with the gaviscon? Other mums I've spoken to said that gaviscon caused constipation. Have you found that?

hi toots, my DD (first) has the acid kind so her major symptom was sreaming all night in pain and loathing being put on her back. gaviscon is def helping. She is pooing fine (one or too big ones a day) but it has the consistency of play dough. sorry if tmi!

Don't think there is such a thing as tmi on mumsnet!
How are you getting on combining the gaviscon with breastfeeding?

tootsweet, i bf for 5 months and then gradually introduced formula. we went for cow and gate 'comfort' as it is a bit thicker and our ds has got on okay with it.

wrt gaviscon and breastmilk, i used to used cool, boiled water and mix the gaviscon into a runny paste and syringe it in his cheeks (can't spit it out that way). i gave that before a breastfeed.

how are you using the gaviscon?

tootsweet · 09/10/2008 15:36

Hi likessleep. Did you use gaviscon whilst using formula? Did your ds get constipated using gaviscon? I don't want to solve one problem but then create another iyswim.
