Should I "test the formula out" on ds4 before going away?

I'm leaving ds4 with my Mum for 2 days while dh and I go away. Now, I'm fairly sure I have enough EBM in the freezer but have bought a tin of formula just in case she runs out. Ideally, I don't want him to have the formula at all and my Mum won't give it to him unless she has to, but would it be risky not to do a test run beforehand? My eldest two were slightly intolerant to dairy, but didn't have a severe reaction, they just did better on goats milk than cows. ( And the formula I bought is goats!)
What would you do?

what are your options? Would 1 bottle cause a bad reaction? What would you do if there was a reaction? If you have enough bm frozen and a little bit extra just incase i wouldnt test formula out - i'd just take a small carton just incase.

TEst, or try to express more. What if he refuses the formula and you are not around to sort the problem?

chipmonkey · 06/10/2008 01:12

The thing is though, that I have expressed 138 oz already so it really seems unlikely that he will need any more for 2 and a half days. But you never know. I really just didn't want to give him any formula but it probably is better to be safe!

Thing is, If I do have enough in the freezer and it doesn't break down, then I will have given him formula for nothing. He weighs 23lb though, so I am assuming will drink a lot!

(I didn't know you could still get Goats Milk formula?)

I'm just a bit in shock at how much you've pumped!!

MrsBadger · 06/10/2008 12:42

(I thought goat's formula wasn;t recommended for infants in Europe any more? only as 'growing up milk' ie >12mo)

I can't imagine he'll get through more than 138oz though, esp if she only thaws/warms 3 or 4 oz at a time

We booked the trip a few months ago, so I had plenty of time to be prepared! It is taking up a lot of room in my freezers though! I am using the bottom shelf of my fridge freezer and a good chunk of the chest freezer as well.

It's not recommended as such but is still available, they just call it Goats Milk Nutrition instead of Infant Formula. Fresh Goats Milk is closer to human milk than Fresh Cows milk and I prefer it for an occasional bottle, particularly as ds2 got that reaction to Aptamil and was fine on Nanny.

MrsBadger, he definitely will drink 6-8 oz at a time and if I am ever away from him and express at a feeding time, I get 6-7 oz. Not that we have fixed feeding times, it's all very approximate!
