FGS as if breastfeeding wasn't already enough of a pain in the arse

Went shopping today and one boob is noticably bigger than the other - it got a bit like that when I was pregnant but now it is really noticeable.

DS is 8 weeks and as depressing as shopping was today I could just about cope with the jelly belly and the stretchmarks but this feels like the final f*cking straw. I look like circus freak

Is there anything I can do? Will it always be bigger now?

Hi I bf ds for 21 months and my left became noticeably bigger than the right ( started in prenancy but also it was his favourite) It did not return to the same size in the year that I didn't bf. During this time I saw a consultant about a breast lump and asked if I fed more on the right side next time could I even them out and she said probably not. I am feeding again but my daughter likes the left best too so I can't even try.

totallypeedoff · 30/09/2008 20:24

Oh f*cking hell, so it might always be like this?

Why don't people warn you about this stuff??? All you hear is breast is best, never hear about the price you have to pay.

You can have it corrected later. I got chicken fillet things to stuff my bra with when I'd finished feeding. Doesn't really bother me now. However it would if I had to get a new man - I'd feel embarrassed and would probably never take my bra off however that's unlikely and dh doesn't care!

Romy7 · 30/09/2008 20:32

it gets less noticeable when you stop bfing. just try extra hard to feed on the other side, but if you've got a superflow and a steady flow, and the boy prefers superflow, ho hum.
nb. if bfing is a pain in the arse you are doing it wrong lol.

AccidentalMum · 30/09/2008 20:40

Hi, if babe has a preference in the cradle hold, use a rugby ball hold on the boob s/he doesn't like. This conned my DD2 into taking my left boob more often to even me out. Also, I always start with the less liked boob if I am somewhere comfy and reasonably quiet, saving favourite boob for when I need to get her on quick.
FWIW, a lady I saw every week told me she fed exclusively from one breast leading to one giant boob, one tiny, and she had to tell me...no-one ever noticed.

totallypeedoff · 30/09/2008 20:41

Oh thank you very much romy. I'm doing it wrong, of course it's all my fault. It's a pain in the arse because DS feeds constantly and I'm now deformed of course it's all my fault.

And adding a doesn't make your comment any more pleasant.

totallypeedoff, i think romy meant if you are getting a pain in your arse...

totallypeedoff · 30/09/2008 20:45

Oh right, sorry romy. I'm a bit wound up.

(I also do have a pain in my arse from all the sitting around and sodding breastfeeding).

Mine we're massively different in size when DD was 8 weeks. By 4-6 months they had nearly gone back to normal, and now at 14 months they are completely the same size. Hang in there, your milk supply is still settling down.

charchargabor · 30/09/2008 20:47

That should be were

misdee · 30/09/2008 20:48

yes milk supply is still settling down. one of mine looked bigger for ages, but now they are almost the same size again. i expect that to change once dd#4 makes an apperence in november.

tissy · 30/09/2008 20:51

same with me. dd preferred the left. Sucked harder on that one (even if she'd had right first). It got bigger. Then it got smaler again, and now there's no difference.

Hang in there.

totallypeedoff · 30/09/2008 20:51

DD4, wow congratulations misdee.

When does milk supply settle down?

It's quite common for women to have one boob bigger than the other, even when not pg or breastfeeding.

I have a comedically large bosom, so more difficult to tell if one is larger than the other I think... Altho one droops more than the other (attractive)

Milk supply settled down properly around 3 months, but I stopped using breast pads around 6 weeks as I wasn't leaking anymore.

Sorry you're finding it all a PITA at the mo, it does get better imo, and then is the ultimate lazy mother tool.

Romy7 · 30/09/2008 20:59

it was a joke!... the thread title made me laugh...
i've had enough bleeding nipples and all night feeds to know it isn't all fun. i wasn't trying to suggest you needed positioning advice or criticising... just trying to lighten the mood away from lifelong deformity and no sleep...
maybe hand the baby over for a few hours and knock off? you do sound pretty knackered...
honestly, the difference will be less noticeable when you stop. i went round for monhts looking like i was carrying a single watermelon off centre. in fact with dc2 he pretty much gave up on the right breast altogether. i spent most of my time trying not to walk in circles...

can i or not?
don't panic, honestly, it will be ok.

totallypeedoff · 30/09/2008 21:01

romy, sorry again.

and pretty soon, you will be dancing round the living room and answering the door whilst still latched on - none of that balancing a baby on a cushion on your lap on the sofa nonsense. it gets muuuuuch easier.
