My DS is four months and one week. He's been diagnosed with reflux and a possible cow's milk allergy. For the last ten weeks, we've been managing his breast refusal. I've tried everything: feeding in unusual places/ways, feeding upright, elimination diets (still off dairy and soya), chiropractors, acid reducing drugs like losec, zantac, special formulas like neocate but nothing has really helped. At worst, he screams when I try to feed him, but much of the time there is a clear, firm refusal to feed no matter how long since the last feed. His weight gain has dropped which is a cause for concern. Do I have to continue to grit my teeth, think calming thoughts and hold onto my wobbly sanity while persevering with a reluctant eater, or does anyone know of a breastfeeding relationship that has been successfully restored after an extended nursing strike?
