My baby is 3 weeks old i had bf problems from the start he never latched on so i expressed, i then got mastitis so gave up a week ago i have not expressed since
now that it is getting better i cant move on and i really regret giving up.
When i squezze i can still get milk out is it to late to bf now and should i just except its to late?
or is it pos to build up my supply again and how long would it take for my supply to meet my babys needs?
Also ive still got a few days of antibs to take is it ok to take them and breast feed i told my doc i wasnt bf at the time they are flucoxacillin 250mg i will ring and ask doc tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has had them and still bf?

Someone will come out yes, if there is someone in your area. If not try another helpline and see if they have someone close to you.

you could try to find a breastfeeding suopport group with breastfeeding councellors. they might well come to your home.

Yes, they are volunteers and their services are free.

In the meantime keep offering the breast whenever you can and as often as you can alongside the formula (perhaps just before).

Chomping is good. It should look like 'chomp, chomp, chomp, chomp, pause'.

Blood from your nipple is not good (not dangerous or anything though) but my knowledge is limited to 'normal' bfing experiences iyswim so wouldn't want to comment on what you should do.

PLEASE don't be scared to phone one of the FREE helplines. These people do it for free because they want to help people just like you.

Just keep feeding/expressing as often as possible. It's the frequency of feeds that builds up the supply again. The more often you do it, the more milk you will produce. Don't worry about not expressing much, it isn't an accurate way to measure how much you are making, the baby is much more efficient at getting milk out anyway.

It can be done, you just need to feed feed feed. Oh, and I would get someone to come out and help you with the bleeding nipple prob and any other probs etc. Have you got lansinoh nipple cream? It's the best and will help you heal, you don't have to remove it to feed either. HTH

Flucoxacillin is fine with b/feeding.

You certainly can try again. Best to start pumping and feeding as much as possible.

Just thought i would give an update.

Ds2 is now mostly bf and is taking less fomula he is still abit fussy with taking the breast but that is getting better. i have been seeing a great bfc she has helped me loads.
The only thing im worried about at the moment is that i dont know when my breast is empty and should i offer the next breast if there is still milk in the first one?

Great news
Mostly books will say the breast is empty when it feels soft but in my experience I could not tell by this way until several months. Some say you can tell by seeing if there is still milk spraying out when you squeeze then there is still milk available or it if only "beads" on the end of the nipple then the breast is empty. You can try squeezing the breast while babe is still on - if more sucking & swallowing results then there is still milk there. It doesn't necessarily cause a problem if the breast is not satisfactorily emptied to a certain level when feeding when your supply is stable but watch out for very watery/foamy/green poos - if babe gets these continuously it could be too much foremilk which improves by making sure the breast is emptied at feeds (as they get more of the fattier hindmilk the longer they are feeding which is digested differently).
