How long will it take for my milk to dry up?

Have been breastfeeding DD for just over 19 months. She had reduced her feeds but wasn't keen to give up. I have gone 'cold turkey' on her as I felt she was getting too big for it and I'd had enough of it and wanted my body back .

I thought my milk would dry up in a few days but it's been over a week and I'm still leaking especially at night. Any idea how long it will take to dry up? Is there anything I can do to help it?

cabbages.
buy two, shove them in the fridge and peel leaves off periodically and line your bra with them. as often as nec - discard once they go limp
v cooling.

nb - remember to remove before shopping - soup kitchen smell wafting around with you when you warm up...

they also contain something with helps to minimise milk production, can't remember what it's called....
wear a bra and cabbage leaves at night too if you fancy.

soon be over, good luck xx

Cheers Romy7! Think I'll give the cabbage leaves a miss. I had heard of that before actually but more for painful engorgement. My breasts aren't really painful but just still leaking loads.

I am currently in your situation, boobs are so sore I'm seriously considering giving DD one feed a day again just to relieve the pressure - she still wants that anyway.

they would inhibit the milk production too...

don't knock it until you've tried it

pammi, get thee to the grocer...

I last fed the first week of May after feeding for 23 months. I still have milk , although I don't leak or anything like that - but DS had gone down to one feed a day for ages before he stopped.

After 2 weeks I still have milk so I tried feeding DD this evening and she's forgotten how - and she bit me really hard! I thought the fact that I was still producing milk was a sign I should continue but that's put paid to that idea now - ouch!

"they also contain something with helps to minimise milk production"

MWs recommended this as a way to relieve engorgement - I did it for a few days, no one ever mentioned I could have been wrecking my chances of bfing!

I breastfed my DD for 10 months. Dropped to just one feed a day and finished altogether a couple of weeks ago. The boob biting games were driving me a bit mental and I think may have been DD's way of saying she was ready to move on from breastfeeding. I'm still able to express quite a bit of milk more than two weeks later. Hoping it won't take too long to dry up.
