I am currently breastfeeding my nearly 5 month old dd. All is going really well, no solids yet either, however, I have had a couple of nasty colds in the past few months and feel that I could do with a pick me up tonic of some sort. Does anybody know of anything I could take while feeding. I am not tired as such like lack of sleep tired just lacking abit on the energy side.

WElcome to Motherhood? I thought exhaustion was par for the course...

You could check you're eating lots of iron; anemia can dampen anybody's energy levels. Floradix is a tasty iron supplement in health food shops, too.

Zebra thanks for reminding me, shows how forgetful you get, especially after two children. I needed iron while, carrying and feeding my son but didnt have that problem while pregnant with dd so didnt think of that. I will have to get some Floradix its got to be better than the ones you get from the docs hasnt it? Hopefully that will work.

I am a huge fan of Pregnacare vitamin tablets. Great for upping your iron levels and a good multivitamin/mineral. Never upset my stomach.

batey · 04/02/2003 18:31

I'd second Floradix, has really helped me when at a low ebb.

Marina · 04/02/2003 18:53

I'd agree with Floradix too. Opinions are divided as to whether it is nice-tasting, but I'm with Zebra and think it is delicious. And it works. Was wondering how you were getting on Joe, we hadn't heard from you in a while.

hello joe, agree with comments on iron supplements (also multivitamins). i would also add early nights, plenty of water, some exercise, not too much high fat or sugary foods (but obviously some, e.g. chocolate ). if you are breastfeeding you are probably not smoking or drinking much if at all, but these can also bring your energy down. finally, sometimes imo low energy levels can be caused by "all work and no play" - if you could perhaps get away for a night or two, plan a couple of evenings out, maybe that would also help.

hope you are feeling more bouncy soon!

I started two of the same thread, dont know how I did that.

Bossykate, I dont get much or any me time really, perhaps that is some of it but I am not very good at leaving my babies, toddler ok but not my dd yet so will just have to try and get out abit more in the fresh air for fun and not just for doing the ponies. I will stock up on the vitamins and Floradix and hope that will make me feel better.

Hi Marina, not doing too bad, been abit busy and having these stinking colds, also have been waiting for my new pc, thats probably how I started two threads, not used to it yet. How are things going for you?

Joe, about a month ago I 'hit a wall' - kept getting colds, was knackered, grumpy etc etc. Dd2 was 3 months ish. I started going to bed at 9pm - ok, no life - but that combined with Pregnacare AND floradix (maybe a bit over cautious!), has really sorted me out and I am now even going to the gym twice a week, blimey!

It does mean you have to video Angel though

Joe1 · 05/02/2003 15:51

Wow Enid the gym. I have been going to bed around 9pm every night and havnt been able to drag myself out until around 9am. Alice is really good too and only wakes up a couple of times in those 12 hours. I have said on the other thread that after lots of nagging I have made an appointment with the doctors. Hopefully with that and some of the other things that have been recommended I will start to feel normal again sometime soon.
