It might not be the caffeine, mind -- there's all sorts of things in Pepsi Max. But best to give it a while before trying again, yes [sympathy for caffeine deprivation emoticon].

The only things I avoided was caffeine and peanuts- babies who bf from a mum with a wide variety of foods will be more accepting of differeing tastes when they start on food- makes sense to get loads of tastes in early IMO.

I don't know what the current advice is but I have bf 4 ds and never eaten any differently to what I would have done anyway but have recently had several friends check if I was eating onions/mushrooms/caffeine before catering for me.I'd say carry on as normal - babies are pretty resilient and you can always just be aware of what you have just in case you find a connection. I should say that I don't drink so I don't know what effects alcohol might have.

Can I ask a really genuine question - how does this food avoidance thing work? Surely the food is processed in your gut and then nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. They're then taken out of the bloodstream to make breastmilk. I can understand how alcohol and cafeine get into breast milk as they are absorbed into the bloodstream, but what about the "farty component of cabbage" or the potential allergen in peanuts? Are these specific substances that are absorbed intact into the bloodstream, and therefore can pass into breasmilk?

I drink 2-3z cups of tea a day. Ds seems fine, i've eaten nuts sweetcorn most veg really as i am a veggie. He seems happy and healthy. I just say eat as you normally do. I don't often drink as i don't really like the taste of alcohol. But a glass of wine wont do any harm.

i was told by my hv not to eat grapes or pineapple as they would give my ds cramps, these are the only fruits i really like and i havent been eating them 4 near 7months now im going straight out to get some (along with some crisps and chocolate 4 l8r of course )

I think drastic changes in diet can make a difference temporarily. With DS1, I went on Weight Watchers and for two nights he had really bad nights, screaming with sore tummy. Only relief was to cycle his legs and he'd pump.

I felt really guilty as it was my vanity and greed that caused it but it passed in a couple of days.

Think it was because at the start of a diet I go a bit 'veg mental.'

Yes I avoided too much alcohol until DD was sleeping through.

Doesn't chocolate have caffeine in it?
