This story on the BBC website today is interesting. I didn't realise the flavour got through so quickly!

interesting
but I don't like the title of that article!

hoppybird · 24/07/2008 12:33

Yes, I noticed that too.

couldn't they have said 'flavours' rather than 'taints'?

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 24/07/2008 12:38

'taints' is a bit loaded, isn't it?

talilac · 24/07/2008 12:38

God that title has been winding me up ALL DAY. Its the lead headline on the subject on google news as well. Even the Daily Mail has a more balanced title.

frisbyrat · 24/07/2008 12:39

That is so cool! Ds is going to have banana milk this afternoon, and, ummmm, maybe tuna sarnie milk at bedtime.

frisbyrat · 24/07/2008 12:40

Oops. Didn't notice title.

Cies · 24/07/2008 12:41

Yes, I saw this too. Interesting, but I think it's just scientific backup for what many women knew all along.

talilac · 24/07/2008 12:42

It is a great story though. I'mm off to eat loads of broccoli..

CatIsSleepy · 24/07/2008 12:43

actually if some foods change the flavour of the milk for up to 8 hours that seems like a long time for me, especially if you're feeding a newborn

claricebeansmum · 24/07/2008 12:46

I think many women are aware of this - especially if they have a spicy curry within weeks of having PFB

NutterlyUts · 24/07/2008 12:54

For me it says " Diet 'can flavour mother's milk'" and if i search for taint in the article it doesn't come up?

CatIsSleepy · 24/07/2008 12:55

wow they changed the title!!

is that the awesome power of MN........?

MrsBadger · 24/07/2008 12:59

or of an editor with an ounce of brain who knows that 'taint' is a negative and not a neutral word...

CatIsSleepy · 24/07/2008 13:00

don't disillusion me Mrs B!
(although you're probably right...
or maybe someone complained)

VictorianSqualor · 24/07/2008 13:06

It would certainly make sense, I ate a lot of curry whilst bfing DS1 and he has no problem with hot spicy things on his palate.

Leek · 24/07/2008 13:11

"She suggested that the same effect might be achieved by mothers using formula milk if they changed the brand now and again."

I don't understand this part - how can anything the mother eats impart flavours via formula? Or do they just mean that different formulas have slightly different flavours, therefore giving the baby variety?

frisbyrat · 24/07/2008 13:12

The latter, I think.

MrsBadger · 24/07/2008 13:12

I think it's just the introducing-variety thing
(Gill Rapley is the BLW guru, you knwo )

VictorianSqualor · 24/07/2008 14:31

I thought that was her.

frisbyrat · 24/07/2008 17:19

Y'know, the more I think about this, the more I think the formula manufacturers are missing a trick.
