Measuring how much breastmilk your baby takes - some tips

hunkermunker · 20/07/2008 23:48

Fill this with water

Dip your breast in.

Whatever water is subsequently displaced will be a mere fraction of the volume of bollocks you're likely to hear from people about how much milk your baby's getting at any one feed.

HTH.

PS don't actually do this. Eat some chocolate instead**Other snacks are available.

Very funny

Wait until they can talk and then ask how much they have had.

DS can tell me if there is a lot or just a little flowing.

Seriously though, how does knowing how much they have had help matters at all? You still don't know the calorific content of the milk (remember it will vary depending on the fore/hind milk mix) so the info you might gain by knowing the volume is not complete.

a few months ago Dh ( an expert on BF ) suggested that Ds2 ( aged 2 1/2) and i might like to think about weaning. he informed me that Ds couldnt really be getting much milk and it was just for comfort

last month we went on holiday to Greece. in a heatwave. Ds2 decided to bring through his back teeth and run a slightly high temperature. So of course we gave him calpol. thats when we discovered that he has the same problem as DH, who gets mouth ulcers after a few doses of paracetemol

So teething toddler with high temperature and mouth ulcers decided to go on hunger strike. As they do . And survived for a week perfectly happily on my super dooper nutritious BM and water [boast emoticon]

Dh couldn't quite believe it [smirk][smart arse emoticon]

I clicked on thinking this was serious.

I'm so glad my OH just shrugs (in a nice way) and says he's happy as long as we are. I asked him about natural term nursing and tandem nursing, both got the shrug. He's really surprised me how supportive he is of my AP ways (just wish I could get him to wear a wrap, unfortunately ChairDADmiaow wasn't wearing his when my OH came to the picnic)

StealthPolarBear · 24/07/2008 13:33

Can you not just get them to spit a mouthful into your hand every 10 mins during a feed and extrapolate it from there?

stretchmarkqueen · 24/07/2008 13:44

I too thought this was serious. God how gullible!!!

Seriously, this has really brightened my day!! Thankyou!!
