How long to dry up?

Mikafan · 15/07/2008 09:12

I have been BF for my DD for 15 months and she is now self-weaning. She will only feed on one side first thing in the morning for 30-60 seconds so I've decided I'm going to stop offering (she never asks/indicates she wants BF and never has). Question is, how long will it take for my body to stop making milk?

Thanks.

I stopped feeding DS 10 weeks ago (he was 23.5 months)and I've still got milk there. Hasn't been at all uncomfortable though, and if she's been feeding that little, I don't expect you'll have any trouble either

I know I won't have any trouble, I'm hardly likely to become engorged or anything, just that my DH wants my boobs back and he can't until they've stopped producing milk IYSWIM

I know exactly what you mean Dh still gets the Kinder Suprise (you know, a treat and a snack...)

I stopped bf'ing 9 months ago - and still have milk?
I don't know if this is normal though?

Is there any way of hastening things along a bit?

I know stress and illness can make you dry up. Not something you would want though?

Mikafan · 15/07/2008 14:50

no, thats probably a step too far

as far i'm aware you just gotta wait. but it was only a matter of a couple of months for myself both times.

Mikafan · 15/07/2008 14:56

if you do become a little engorged, don't express any. this will only encourage it to keep producing.

Maybe getting into a really tough work-out routine? Working out would be putting stress on your body, even though it's positive stress..

elmoandella · 15/07/2008 15:06

with both mine i was at gym a minimum of 3 days a week, perhaps workout has something to do with it? but you gotta srap them up nice and tight.

Mikafan · 15/07/2008 15:07

I can't see them being engorged, not on one feed a day. I have started running 3 times a week so maybe that will help. Also I can now take antihistamines again for my hay fever which I've heard can dry you up.
