Hi,
Just wondered if anyone has any good "one liners " for irritating unhelpful comments about bf`ing an 18 month old .Its perfectly natural and we are comfortable with our morning and bedtime feed -just getting pi*d off with the "Little Britain " comments and " oh its time you stopped all that now " .Always seems to wind me up and would love a terriffic reply ready to drop next time-any ideas ??????

The trouble with LB is that loads of kids watch it (in my school anyway) and what sort of image of extended bf is it creating in their minds?

My mum was coming around to extended nursing until Little Britain came along. I haven't seen that one - not been shown in NZ probably, but if it makes people as uncomfortable as the sketch with the teenager seducing the granny makes dh, then I can see how it would be a problem.

Also felt uncomfortable in the Bridget Jones Edge of Reason when Mark Darcy is spouting on about "breastfeeding him until he's 17 and sending him to a progressive liberal arts college".

Bobbybob - the sketch if of a grown man breastfeeding during various social/family gatherings. He asks for "bitty".

I can't say I've ever been criticised for bf a toddler - no need for one liners!

I do occasionally bf my almost 3 year old in public and no one says anything. Even tandem nursing (of an almost 4 year old and 1 year old) did not produce comment - and I was ready for them

Here's a silly question:

What constitutes a toddler when you are talking about breastfeeding? And again, what age does "extended" breastfeeding kick in?

In my mind, I suppose a toddler would be defined as a child that "Toddles", but the age of this would vary. I also wouldn't consider "extended" breastfeeding as anything before maybe 16 months?

What is everyone else's view on this?

I bf my ds until he was over 2 but I must admit I was not brave in public, After he was about 18 months I bf increasingly at home in bed am and pm. By the end hardly anyone knew at all except me dh and ds and dh really wanted me to stop (partly to get our bed back too which is another issue) Suffice to say I was really influenced by my perception of those around me being disapproving once ds was big and walking etc. I'm not proud of it but I was a real wuss.

ilanak- my dd was 'toddling' at 10 months- my friends dd is 16 months and barely crawling so it's a hard one.i still bfeed dd and intend to carry on as long as she wants to

I'm giving up at 11 mo - little ratbag keeps biting me with his 6 teeth and giggling!! but will continue to express and give him that - tho dh keeps huffing and puffing about it!
