Can you overfeed a breast fed baby?

DS is 14 weeks and exclusively breast fed on demand. At last weigh in 2 weeks ago he was 14lbs 5oz so reckon he is now around 16lbs as he seems to gain 1 to 1.5 lbs every 10 days to 2 weeks. He seems to be following the 75th centile for weight and 50th for length. He definitely looks chubby and has the most enormous pair of cheeks which I can't stop kissing! Bit worried though as DH has suggested he is feeding too much and that he will be overweight as a toddler. I've read that they burn any fat off as soon as they get active so am not particularly worried. Just wondered though, do babies feed until they are satisfied or can they feed too much? DS feeds pretty regularly but also uses the breast for comfort (which I will need to stop at some point) so is perhaps taking more than he needs this way?

I heard that breastfed babies cant get overweight.

It sounds like you are doing a great job with the feeding and producing some amazing full cream

I was tired second time and think I fed my dd semi skimmed

I would not worry and its true as soon as he starts to move he will burn the extra chubb off.

Its nice when they have that chubb because they can lose weight when ill but you wont have to worry.

Take care

It is said that you cannot overfeed a breast fed baby. Anyway, babies should be chubby .

you cannot overfeed a an exclusively bf baby, his weight gain is just down to you doing a fantastic job of feeding, well done and keep up the good work

You can't overfeed a breastfed baby, and they are designed to stock up on fat at this age so that they have reserves to call on when they start getting mobile and burn loads of energy. DS was on the 99.8th percentile as a baby, and as a 2 year old, is on the 75th - and although still rounded, has thinned out a lot. But he hardly stays still all day (and eats like a horse)

No you cant.

Exclusively breastfed babies are less likely to suffer obesity as adults than formula-fed babies.

Enjoy your rolypoly

kellymom is excellent

Short answer - don't limit feeds, feed on demand including demand of comfort IMO.

thanks ladies. Not sure what I would have done about it anyway as nothing gets between DS and his food! Makes me wonder what I'm eating?? Too many biscuits . . .
