dd2, who was breastfed, age 7 was quite surprised that boobies were for feeding babys

She had never thought about it before apparently.
She thought you got the milk from the fridge, put it in a bottle and screwed the lid on and gave it to the baby.

assuming she hasn't had exposure to bf (other than feeding herself) then why would she know?

charliecat · 29/06/2008 20:28

kittens, puppies, I dunno. I just thought it was quite mad

What age did you stop feeding her? Just interested as I am feeding DD at 22m and am beginning to wonder what she will remember about it.

ChasingSquirrels · 29/06/2008 20:31

I know what you mean, but it does depend on exposure doesn't it. I would expect ds1 to know at 7 because he has been exposed to it (me feeding ds2, and friends feeding babies). But I wouldn't be suprised if ds2 didn't know at 7, despite being fed himself until 20mo, as he won't have any exposure to it.
Least she knows now

charliecat · 29/06/2008 20:31

Just over a year she was. So I wouldnt expect her to remember but...I didnt know she didnt know IYKWIM

dd1, who is 8, was asking why our new baby wont have its milk in a bottle, and why i would be breastfeeding. even though i breastfed dd3 for 2 years and her aunties are currently breastfeeding their babies, in todays society and marketing, its is still the norm to bottlefeed. i am hoping that maybe with most of my family being deterined breastfeeders, she will follow when she has her babies in 20years or so.

Flibbertyjibbet · 29/06/2008 20:35

Since we got our freesat and access to the digital channels I have noticed that the dolly adverts aimed at very young children all have bottle feeding dollies.
so I can see where they are getting the idea from of bottles for baby.

fishie · 29/06/2008 20:35

i do think about this myself, ds rarely sees anyone else being bf. although he did point out meerkats having milk earlier am not sure he has entirely connected the two.

Eelpie · 29/06/2008 21:41

Flibberty - DD got a Dolly recently, despite it having a bottle she also holds it to my chest for "Mummy Milk". IKWYM about the adds though

pinkspottywellies · 29/06/2008 21:45

DD (20m) gives her dolly drinks out of a cup or if she hasn't got one handy, then from somewhere near her belly button!

My friend fed her dd for 2 years and is now feeding her ds who's 18m. Her dd gives her dolly a bottle even though neither her or her brother (or many people she knows I doubt) ever had a bottle!
