I've heard of breastmilk jaundice - which from what I've read is temporary and you are meant to carry on feeding through. and my friend's mum's little sister was lactose intolerance, so couldn't cope with BM and had to have soy formula.

Here's some info on lactose intolerance from Kellymom.

Sorry, pressed post too early! I hope that link helps. I believe true allergy to lactose in babies is rare. In most cases I think it is a reaction to a food in the mother's diet such as dairy, which is also not common. Eliminating the food means the infant will no longer react. Hope that makes sense, sleep deprived here!

I think true allergy to breastmilk would be lactose intolerance. From what that link says it seems to be very rare. Cow's milk protein allergy seems much more common. Sorry to post three times, I kept thinking of something else to say!

Somebody once told me that she just WOULDNT drink ,ilk when she was a baby, and was brought up on orange juice.

Looking back, I think she was probably lying! She was only about 22.
