Is this amount of milk normal for my baby overnight?

Hi all,
Just want to know I'm not going crazy. Baby has around 3 or 4 7 Oz bottles during the day, as well as solids for breakfast and dinner. She goes to bed at 8, and I'm finding is waking at 10, 1, and 5 (sometimes only 1 and 5) and drinking 3-7 Oz each time depending on the night. My mother in law says that's far too much and now I'm paranoid and feel like a bad mum. Should I be concerned, is this normal?

How old is your baby?

I BF but did think the benefit of bottle feeding was after a few months you didn't have to do it overnight? Absolutely not a bad mum, and if it's working for you great, but why not cut the bottle and take the sleep?

Don’t feel like a bad mum! You’re being quite the opposite by responding to her needs. If her weight is ok, then I wouldn’t worry. You could always text your HV.

Do you attempt to settle her without milk first?

DD (7 months) often goes back to sleep very quickly with a pat, but if she doesn’t, I know she probably needs a bottle. She will usually then drink just over 8oz. She doesn’t tend to wake up more than once a night, but then she doesn’t go to bed until around 9pm.

It's probably better to look at her milk intake over 24 hours and compare it (roughly) to the recommended formula feeding amounts.

I wouldn't feel like a bad mum at all. Every baby is different, and if she's genuinely hungry and finishing the bottles, she's probably just taking what she needs.
My little one went through phases of taking quite a lot overnight too, especially during growth spurts. If she's happy, growing well, and otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry too much about what anyone else thinks.
If you're concerned, it's always worth mentioning it to your health visitor, but from what you've described it doesn't sound unusual to me

Totally depends on how old they are and how much milk they’re having during the day Smile
