My dd is 4 weeks old. I bf ds until 1 year and had a few problems establishing and sore nipples at the start but he was generally a good feeder.
This time I had no problems establishing, I went through a few problems when my milk came through but that seemed to be sorting itself out.
DD ended up in hospital at 8 days due to an eye infection and needed IV antibiotics followed by a 5 day course of oral, so finished not long after she was 2 weeks old. From being about 3 weeks I have had no end of problems, she has problems latching on and once latched slips back and sucks/clamps my nipple which are now really sore and cracked.
I decided over the weekend, I was at the end of my tether and bought treatment for thrush for both of us.
Please tell me these problems can be overcome, I really don't want to stop bf but don't no how much more I can take.

good info here

Huge sympathy, I've had thrush with 2 babies and it's horrid
Just take it one feed at a time
Take painkillers (paracetamol) if you need to

I'm in the same boat, 2nd child who is 8 weeks and all ready on 2nd dose of antibiotics! ask your hv. mine recommended 'Fluconazole'. I found the cream doesn't work but I put the gel in my babies mouth. Surprisingly what really works is White vinegar!' Dose your nipples part vinegar part warm water at the end of your shower!! Don't forget to wipe any excess milk off nipple at the end of a feed and allow your breasts to breath!! good luck!!!

hang on in there and keep treating both of you until both are clear

i really feel for you, yes it can be overcome, i fed ds1 without a single problem for 8 months however...
DS2 had terrible latch from day 1, got breastmilk jaundice, was hospitalised on day 9 with bronchiolitis, tube fed for 3 weeks, lost all ability to latch, i then spent 8weeks expressing to feed him and putting him to the breast, to 're-teach' him, during which time i had two bouts of mastitis and nipple thrush that took two weeks to diagnose,
i was in tears nerly every day and almost gave up several times but i'm so glad i didnt as he's now 6 months and fully breastfeeding and we're both really happy for it!!!

sorry for the waffle!

Your doing an excellent job, it will get better

xx
ps i used miconazole (sp) which was excellent
