Best bottles/teats for breastfed baby.

Am going away for the day next weekend and leaving DS2(9wks) with MiL, have expressed plenty of milk but just tried to get him to take a bottle to check he would and he Was Not Impressed.
I had to end up starting to feed him then swapping breast for bottle half way through.
Are there any bottles/teats he may prefer, these were just bog standard slow-medium flow teats that came with normal 9oz bottles.

Mimi has tommee tippee ones

scorpio1 · 22/06/2008 19:42

with number 1 teats

TheBlonde · 22/06/2008 19:42

mam teats worked with my two
will fit any wide neck bottle

georgiemama · 22/06/2008 19:49

tommee tippee closer to nature were best for DS.

Funnily, DS would not take a bottle of expressed milk from me, but was happy enough to from mum or DH. I think he just knew I had the real goods and would crack, but from anyone else there was nothing else available.

Another shout for Tommee Tippee here.

I tried Avent and Tommee Tippee before dd finally took NUK.

The NUK teats look more like a nipple I think.

thehappyprince · 22/06/2008 21:15

nuk or mam seem best for my ds, both seem a bit more similar to nipple.

velbels · 23/06/2008 19:16

i use Avent with no 1 teats no problem. Friends have recommended breast flow but i haven't tried them. (sold in mothercare)

ilovemydog · 23/06/2008 19:21

Definitely NUK - tried various brands, but this one worked best.

But DS (3 months) will NOT take an expressed bottle from me. Only from others??? Like buying a drink if you live in a pub!

Breast flow from mothercare. Only ones which make the baby work for the milk - pretty much nothing comes out unless they compress the bottle's teat as if it was a nipple. Also BPA-free (the MAMs are bpa-free too, not sure about the TTs)

I had this problem with dd2 now 12wks. My advice is whatever bottle you try just persevere. i.e. don't give in and give the boob. If she refuses just leave it and try to calm her and try again. Give directions like 'suck' when you bf. Use the same command when trying the bottle when the teat is in her mouth. When she sucks give lots of praise 'clever, good girl'. Believe me even babies respond to praise and instructions.
I use Tommee Tippee btw, because they look breast shaped.

To add to earlier, about the only sensible thing in the baby whisperer book is that if you are a Bfer wanting to use a bottle you need to find a teat that is a similar shape to your nipple. Seriously. Tommee Tippee are great if you have quite flat nipples but if they stick up more, you might need NUK or Avent.
