ow - boob gone crazy

DD is 16 wks and excl bf. I woke this morning with one massive, painful, leaky boob (I was soaked, and don't normally leak at all anymore). DD fed fine but it was by no means 'empty' and now its huge and really throbbing, She's feeding again and it seems to be helping. But wahat's going on? Is it response to growth spurt and why only one boob? TIA!

She's finished feeding now and it has deflated but it is still very painful.

Does your boob feel hard (after feeding) or have hard patches in it? Do you feel unwell?

It could be in response to a growth spurt. Offer another feed from that breast in the next hour or so and see how it is after that.

Also does your dd favour one breast over the other?

Thank you! It's pretty soft now (don't think it is mastitis) but just as painful as before. If she feeds from it again might it not make even more milk?

Well, that can be the risk. But to make yourself comfortable, offer the painful boob first. Then on the feed after that offer the other boob first.

You may be on your way to getting a blocked duct, if you think that's the case, make a fist and roll it down from the top of your boob down to your nipple. It can be uncomfortable to do this, but it works! Oh, and it feels easier if you do it in the shower with the shower head aimed at your boob.
