The pill & comfort breastfeeding

I would say that i am now 100% FF, but DD likes to be put to the breast to help her settle into a nap and her night-time sleep.
I really don't know if she is getting much/any milk from it, as I no longer get the let-down feeling (it used to be VERY strong & painful) and my nipples don't leak any milk, BUT she does sometimes posset afterwards, but whether that's from the earlier feed (usually half hour - hour earlier) I don't know.
My period has just returned, and I want to start taking the pill again. I don't really want the mini-pill as I'm too scatty for the 3-hour rule. Can I take the full-blown one? Or is even a small amount of putting baby to breast mean the pill stuff will get through to her? (sorry, not very eloquent , but I hope you know what I mean).

sorry- no great advice really, but did you know that some of the newer mini-pills don't have the 3 hour rule, you now have a 12 hour window, just like the combined pill (think cerazette is one), though tbh I can't seem to get on with the mini-pill at all- I just bleed constantly and turn into a hormonal wreck (well, more so than usual!), so am watching this thread to see if there is any new advice!

I'm full BF and on cerazette and its been great for me. You do have a 12hr window to take it so I normally manage to remember!

I'm not an expert but I think it's likely your DD is getting some milk - would she not get annoyed if she wasn't? Is she latching on? Swallowing?

VictorianSqualor · 20/06/2008 07:55

I'd agree with SPB.
If she is still latching she is likely to be getting something.
Why not try the cerazette option?
I'm on the normal mini-pill (micronor) and just have a alarm set on ym phone for when it needs taking and keep it in my handbag, it's not that hard really!

I'm going to hedge my bets here: i would not want the mini-pill because of the 3 hour rule, Cerezette is a good compromise because it has a 12 hour window. reading up on the combined pill, I don't believe it would be dangerous for your daughter. The problem is related to reduced milk supply rather than passing into milk. Some GPs might be prepared to prescribe it if you understand that it might reduce milk and accept that chance. Personally, I am between Cerazette and the Mirena coil - both allowed. (Actually, I am pregnant with no 2 and have now (just) stopped breastfeeding my 3 year old - but I am planning for later since a 3rd is not necessarily in the plan.
