Interesting article. The author's mother sounds great.

Also sad to read that Belgium has the worst rate of bfing in the developed world - presumably something to do with very limited maternity leave - something like 15 weeks in total.

That's a great article but makes me feel kind of sad that so many babies don't get BF and suffer for it.

One in the eye to all the journalists who start the "BF mafia making ff mothers feel guilty" articles. We should, bf or ff, all be on the same side - the side of complete, accurate, understandable information and as much support as is required to breastfeed (whether that's none, or a lot).

Where's he getting these figures from?

The one on the percentage of mums who want to continue comes from research done either by the NCT or Unicef - can't remember which.

The other figure comes from Ball and Wright's 1999 research which was published in Paediatrics.

In that case - wow to the 2nd one!
I think the NHS is starting to do more to promote bf but I wonder whether enough is being done re training and putting support in place. Also they do promote it up to 6 months but don't really mention bf after that which I think goes some way to explaining the common belief that it isn't any benefit after 6 months.
