Breastfeeding mamas — quick question about leaks & bras

Newmumamargo · 29/03/2026 12:48

Hi everyone! šŸ‘‹

I’m doing a bit of research around breastfeeding/nursing bras and wanted to hear real experiences from other mums. I am a new mum and currently navigating nursing.

What are you currently using for leaks (pads, specific bras, etc.)?

And honestly… what’s the most annoying part about it?

Have you ever tried those ā€œleakproofā€ bras with built-in absorbency? If so, were they actually any good?

Also curious — would you trust a bra on its own without pads, or does that feel a bit risky? šŸ˜…

Would really appreciate any thoughts/experiences! šŸ™

Hi, I tried disposable pads and hated them (always in the way, got runched up in my bra). Instead I embraced the leakage most of the time. I then bought a lesh 'leakproof bra' and absolutely love it. Currently pregnant with my second and will buy 3 more

Pads just got bunched up with the amount I was moving my bra around to feed on demand. At night I just accepted the leakage onto my top. To be honest I just had a bra that was ok at absorbing it and dressed in stuff that wouldn’t show. Quite soon though I wasn’t over-producing during the day so it didn’t matter. I don’t think I’d go out of my way to buy anything too expensive to mitigate it.

See how you go, I found I only needed disposable pads for the first 2-3 weeks then I never leaked so I just wore a bra, and nothing apart from a supportive vest top with crossover front or drop down clips at night

Yes! I have trouble with the bunched up pads too, so annoying!

Oh that’s so lucky that you only had 2-3 weeks of leaking, I love this for youšŸ‘šŸ» I am almost 3 months in and leak when my son feeds and I cannot stand the feeling of the wetness on my clothes if I’m not positioned right on the pad/it scrunches up šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Agreed! The bunching up is sooo annoying, especially at night if I haven’t noticed and then the positioning is off and then leak through my bra šŸ™ƒ I have just purchased the Lesh bra and excited to try it, couldn’t quite figure out though, do you have to remove the cups? Or just wash the bra as a whole?
Congratulations on your pregnancy šŸ¤—

I had over production and leaks for so long and I hated the wet feeling, the reusable bamboo pads as someone else has said were really good and the best thing I used

StillWeRise · 29/03/2026 20:48

a warning though, do NOT put the washable pads in a washing machine without putting them in a mesh bag!!!

Thanks for your reply! I’m trying to look for this but can only find period underwear - do you have a link by any chance? šŸ™‚

Yes I often did!

magpie234 · 31/03/2026 10:04

If you leak while feeding your son you could try popping a passive collector cup on the other boob? Haaka Ladybug or Petal.

LadyDanburysHat · 31/03/2026 11:14

I used bamboo pads until things settled down and I no longer needed them.

these reusable breast pads are brilliant. Never leaked through even when bursting! Pop in washing machine and they dry really quickly. I used them for almost two years with my first, now using them for my second and they still look brand new.
