Biting breastfeeding

My 11 month old has started biting these past few days and I know he definitely is teething. However, when he bites I tell him no firmly and unlatch him but now he’s started biting, pulling back and then unlatching himself and then screaming after before I even get the chance to tell him no. I don’t know what to do as he’s going it every time he’s feeding until he finally stops himself and just feeds. Is the screaming just him knowing im going to say no or could it be something else? I’m really at a loss and so close to giving up bf.

he doesn’t need to be breastfed any more and with the biting I’d give him a cup with breastmilk in as it won’t get any better and losing a nipple is very painful!

You can stop the biting and continue to breastfeed. I managed to stop it with my son

How did you manage to stop the biting? I really don’t want to stop breastfeeding yet as I planned to slowly wean off at 18 months.

I can't stop the biting 😅 14 months and he thinks it's funny. How do I get him to stop?

@kjr01@sharkstale shouted ow then took him off the boob for 5 mins. Worked after a couple times

Nope that doesn't work with my son 😆 he's 'strong-willed', to put it mildly. I think I will have to stop soon as he's absolutely terrorising my poor boobs.

If you decide to express I’d use bottles rather than a cup for now. They will spill most of it from a cup and you’ll be lucky if they take more than a few sips.

Oh this was me too - I didn’t want to stop and was devastated as I wanted to continue until he was two - but I had to take a trip to A&E where the doctors told me to stop immediately. It was emotional and the hormones didn’t help as you get all sorts of happy hormones from breastfeeding; however they were right and that if it got infected things would be so much worse. It was far more emotional for me than it was for him – he didn’t take a bottle but took a cup with a straw and that was the end of that.

He first started biting around nine months and I continued to the point where his teeth eventually went right through. I cannot even begin to tell you how sore it was.

Good luck OP. For what it’s worth my next son didn’t bite at all and we breastfeed up to 2 xx

I hold DS's nose if he bites deliberately. Eye contact and telling him we'll stop if he bites works sometimes. I stop completely, not just for 5 minutes. Sometimes he does it by accident if he got a blocked nose though.

I cannot believe what women put up with. One bite would be it for me!
