Explosive diarrhoea with Mamia 1st infant formula purchased from Aldi- anyone else's baby experienced this?

My Sister posted this to another baby forum but thought may be also helpful in this forum to see if anyone else experiencing any issues?

My newborn daughter initially started on Cow & Gate ready-to-feed formula. Unfortunately, we were unable to continue using the powdered Cow & Gate formula due to the recent recall and difficulty finding it in shops. As a result, my husband purchased Mamia 1st infant formula from Aldi. I was also expressing breast milk, but I was unable to produce enough to fully feed her.

Over the course of about a week, my daughter was gradually given an increasing amount of the Aldi mamia formula. By Monday she was being fed exclusively on this formula. During this time we noticed a significant change in her behaviour and health. She became increasingly unsettled, was not sleeping, cried constantly, and appeared constipated. This then developed into severe explosive diarrhoea that would not stop.

Her condition became serious enough that we had to take her to A&E, which was extremely frightening for us. Following this, we immediately stopped giving her the Aldi mamia formula.

Afterwards, I spoke with two friends who also have newborn babies and who had recently started using Aldi mamia 1st infant milk formula. Both reported that their babies had also become very unhappy and experienced explosive diarrhoea after using the same formula.

Since stopping the Aldi mamia 1st infant milk formula, my daughter has returned to being a happy baby and is now sleeping well again.

All three of us have reported our concerns to Aldi but we have not yet received any response.

My tin's batch number was: 4088600550084, NOT-092201-001 20813458. My friends tin's batch numbers were: 0011273954 and 0011313266.

It’s so often that people complain about products sold by Aldi that have something wrong with them (such as rotten turkeys, mouldy biscuits). It is for this reason that I rarely shop at Aldi. I most certainly would never buy their formula.

Surely the hospital would report a suspected contaminated batch of formula to your health department? Did the hospital take stool samples for the purpose of cultures?

My Sister reported the matter to the local food safety team. It was initially suspected that her baby had a cow's milk allergy (no stool sample taken). She was advised her baby would need to experience diarrhoea for 2 weeks before a hypoallergenic formula could be prescribed. Her baby was very unwell that 111 called an ambulance (only to be told that there was a 6 hour wait) so my Sister had to drive her newborn straight to A&E with high pitched screaming. Her baby became really dehydrated (her skin was so dry and flaky), but fortunately my sister combination feeding so was able to express breast milk for her baby and did not give her baby any more of the aldi formula.

The following day my Sister spoke with her 2 friends who both had recently stopped using Mamia formula after their newborn babies became unwell while on it. Following these conversations, my sister realised that the issue must have been related to the baby formula rather than to a cow's milk allergy.

There have been lots of baby formula recalls recently due to toxins been present so I feel its important to share just incase anyone else's baby has been unwell. My sister is going through sleep deprivation and did not have the time to post, but was happy for me to share this with Mum's.net.
